With great excitement, we recently began utilizing Accelerated Reader and Accelerated Math as supplemental programs within our elementary. Also, there are countless educational apps and websites available to students that as educators we are constantly being exposed to. This being said, it has become clear that we need to address the topic of technology access throughout our school. Having iPads accessible within the classroom would allow students to be hands on with their learning through technology on a daily basis. Currently, students attend computer lab once a week for around thirty minutes. Rather than the entire class attending computer lab all at once, iPads within the classroom will allow for small group and independent learning opportunities. This is particularly important to our district as our elementary is designed as combination classrooms. When instructing one grade level, the other is completing independent work tasks. Working with iPads will allow students to take control of their learning. Working with XtraMath to build math fact automaticity, listening to stories to build reading fluency, practicing spelling words through Spelling City while locking in phonics skills and building an expanded vocabulary are but the tip of the iceberg when imagining the possibilities. It is our goal to build an iPad lab that is accessible to all of our elementary students. This starts with having a plan for storage so we are looking to purchase a portable charging station along with 2 iPads with protective covers. Thank you for your support as we work towards our goal to build one to one independent technology access within our classrooms.
