Help Us Promote the Use of Reusable Bags!
Funded Oct 21, 2014On behalf of the Environmental Club at our school, we would like to thank you for your generous donation for our reusable bags project.
The Environmental Club was very excited to receive these bags and represent both their school and the Environmental Club. They loved the design of the bag and they loved the fact that it was reusable. They also REALLY loved why such a well-known company took the time and donated to our cause.
So far, we have used the bags as a way to encourage students to recycle plastic bags. We had competitions across the school to see which class would collect the most bags and the students in the 1st and 2nd place classes each won a bag. During that competition alone, we collected over 2,500 plastic bags. The best part about it is that even though the competition is over, students are still collecting bags throughout the school. The Environmental Club is proud to see that students have turned this into a habit.
Prior to the competition, many students were unaware of just how toxic plastic bags are for the environment. Many did not know the benefits of reusable bags. The Environmental Club taught them to use the bags to bring in lunch, carry extra books, or use it at the supermarket.
In honor of Earth Month,in April we plan on doing a few competitions and hosting raffles to give away more bags. Our goal is to have as many people as possible make a habit of recycling and reusing.”

Need Paper Recycling Bins for Classrooms!
Funded Feb 19, 2014Once again, I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your donations helped us get multiple bins for each classroom which are now used for paper recycling. Each bin was labeled with a coordinating recycling sticker.
The students in the Environmental Club were very excited to receive the bins because they believe it makes recycling more official and consistent throughout the school. In order to avoid having students throw other garbage in the bins, we actually cover them with the tops. We are working on creating a school community that is all on the same page and hope that soon, we won't need to cover the bins. We know it will take time and we will just have to keep reminding both teachers and students that recycling is absolutely necessary.
The part about this project being funded that I love the most is that the students know there are people out there that are willing to help. The one thing I hope they take away from this is that if you put your mind to it, you can do many good things for your community and you don't have to do it alone or have a lot of money.”

Recycling Cans Desperately Needed for Inner City School
Funded Dec 19, 2013Once again, I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your donations helped us get 2 recycling cans which are situated in the hallways. The best part about the cans is that they have multiple slots for garbage that can be changed over time if we decide to recycle different things in them.
The students in the Environmental Club were very excited to receive the cans because they believe it makes recycling more official and the labels and slots are so clear that they believe students would not throw unnecessary trash in them.

Calculators For Science Class
Funded Dec 15, 2011This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. Facing a budget shortfall, teachers are always struggling to stretch a dollar and share resources with one another. With regards to calculators, I had to run around the school to find available sets of calculators each time we needed them since math teachers obviously have priority. This put a strain on my time as well as the students. Each time calculators were not available, students had to take turns using each others or my personal calculator. Being english language learners, every minute of class time is crucial to their success. They could not afford the lost time.
Without your donation, we would still be losing valuable class time. ”

Projector Needed for Living Environment class in the Bronx
Funded Oct 5, 2010This is just a small token of gratitude for your very generous donation to my classroom. The projector that you donated has improved learning greatly. Students are now able to see more visuals, animations, videos, and hear enhanced audio. Being English language learners, my students benefit from this donation more than any other students. Having the ability to combine visuals with the sounds they hear in English is essential for their learning and growth. In addition, the projector helps me teach students to be more technologically savvy; a quality that is important for their future.
With very few projectors available in the school, we are constantly struggling to get our hands on one. Thanks to you, my students do not have to wait until a projector is available. Now it is on hand at all times and is ready to be used whenever we see fit and it is one less hurdle they must face for academic success.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Kucevic
