  • Creating Joy and Kindness on Our School Walls

    Funded Jan 28, 2024

Thank you again for your generosity with the art supplies.

As we begin our art project the students have been learning about the artists and various artistic mediums.

We started with having the students choose color preferences, and discussed why they wanted that color.

When my students saw the art supplies on the table they came running over to work.

Art brings a different level of functioning to the classroom. It becomes one of joy and

fun. The class will also get to choose the colors of the magic markers they want to use.

The students reacted very positively to the wide variety of colors as these colors are not available within the school setting.

Art always wins the hearts of my students.”

  • Preparing for a Brighter Future

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

Thank you very much for your donation. A large part of our students' growth is through hands on experiences. Being able to use a laminating machine and follow the steps required to complete the process fosters independence.

The students are now able to follow the lamination process with only minor assistance. Hopefully, the skills they are learning will be transferable to other processes. This could include working in an office setting and using a larger laminating machine or a copier.

Once they learn the skills and the steps they are able to move "forward" in the working world. So thanks again for providing us with the valuable tools needed by my students.”

  • Book Binding for a Brighter Future

    Funded Jul 20, 2023

We really appreciate the support you provided by gifting my class with the Book Binding Machine. As a Special Education High School hands on vocational projects are beneficial to our students.

We are starting a Project Based Learning Curriculum (PBL) and the book binding process will be my class' contribution to the vocational component. My colleagues and I are writing proposals to be formulated into books. One of the photos I sent is a You Tube video of how the Book Binding Machine works.

Other photos show the students looking through the packages and all the different parts of the book binding packages sent to us. This is an exciting endeavor for all of us, and could not be done without your generosity.

    Take care

    Best Regards”

  • Making Our Vision Work With iPads

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Hoping everyone had a healthy and happy Thanksgiving .

My students are very receptive to technology because they are visual learners.

With iPads in the classroom the students are able to work with a greater focus.

They also know how to log onto iPads and therefore are able to work with more independence.

We are currently working on identifying the value of US currency (coins and bills).

The students were able to use the iPad for math by going on line and matching the bills they were given in class. They also checked their work and played a quiz game where they were able to submit their answers and see their accuracy.

When you donate to a classroom you are providing access to material and curriculum that only technology can provide.

Have a wonderful upcoming holiday season and a joyous New Year.”

  • Using 21st Century Technology to Create a Successful Future

    Funded Dec 31, 2021

First, I want to thank you again for your willingness to assist our classrooms with new technology.

As seen in the uploaded photos, the students gathered around the computer after it was unpacked. We have a SMART BOARD where uploaded material from my computer can be displayed to the entire classroom.

My Special Needs students gravitate toward visual and colorful materials. The new computer allows me to upload material at a faster rate, and to access web sites unavailable with an older operating system on my computer.

When the class sees new technology introduced into the classroom it provides an opportunity to show and discuss how computers and Ipads impact our daily lives and our futures.

It is also gratifying on a personal level to receive a gift that is central to my teaching and our core curriculum. We are studying how to bring students successfully into the 21st century using knowledge and use of technology. I now have the means to convey that message as I explore all the updated and new facets of my beautiful computer.

Having a large screen also provides a truer image of how my students will perceive the work as projected on the SMART BOARD.

I hope you have a very happy and healthy year and know your generosity is appreciated and well received by all.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. C

  • Working as a DIGITAL Community With Our Special Needs Students!

    Funded Jul 20, 2021

Thank you donors for the lovely gift of the HP Chromebook. This notebook allows me to introduce visuals to my multi sensory learners. It accesses many programs I was unable to place in my on line/in class lessons due to an outmoded computer.

There are many apps I am able to use that were unavailable in my prior computer.

With the touchscreen I can now swipe up and easily use all of the settings on the notebook. There are interactive tools that I utilize with my students who require a differentiated learning style. Also, the speed at which the chrome book processes commands is remarkable.

The bright colors and clear pictures make it easier to introduce new material.

New technology provides the opportunity work on line with my students.

Have a happy and safe Summer and a wonderful Year.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. C

We are a Special Education inner city High School that is vocationally oriented. We prepare our students for their futures by providing hands on work experience. They interact socially and vocationally with others and are mentored in an informal manner. This allows them to rectify inappropriate speech and behavior patterns through role models. We work in a Food Pantry twice a week where we package and stock shelves while assisting the clients with their shopping needs. The boys actually are interested in coming to school on work days because they feel needed by the clients at the Food Pantry. They are able to conceptualize their place in the world while learning "real" life skills. We also do school wide shopping for our staff at a local Department store once a week. Many of the activities are functional aspects of jobs related to the culinary field. Reading a job description about work in a grocery store is vastly different then doing and learning tasks in the actual work place.
