I am a first-year teacher and walked into a classroom with very few materials. Markers and crayons for each group to have would be amazing! It would also be great to have some different materials to change up how I teach the students. This would help students generalize what they are being taught, while at the same time, help keep instruction fun and exciting.
Many of the children in my class struggle with comprehension, even if they are able to read above their grade level. The "Can Do" activity canister is just one more way to teach comprehension. My students love tokens and this will be motivating to them. The other "Can Do" canister, for language, will only further the language, which is also a major deficit the kids in my class have.
Although some students can read, other are still learning sounds of letters. The "Phonics Magnetic Letter Boards" will also be a great addition to my classroom. The students have shown that pairing words with a picture make it easier to retain what is being taught. It's great because it is good for several levels and can be adapted to meet each child's goal, whether it's to spell, learn beginning/final sounds of words, or blends/digraphs, which is also the need for the magnetic letters and sponge letters. Those who have fine motor issues and can't write can still practice spelling too!
