Our technology continues to expand at our school and our library is no exception! This project is two fold and will extremely benefit our students in teaching them self-responsibility and to greater connect to their culture through the new titles geared toward our student demographic population. I am the librarian of an inner city high school and I also serve as the Technology Coordinator of the school. I am in constant need throughout the building to extinguish technology fires; therefore, there are numerous times I am unable to circulate books to our students. The school has already purchased the software to create mobile and self-checkout kiosks; we are in need of the hardware to support our endeavors. While I am away from the library, students will be able to visit the library (supervised by others) and select reading materials and then proceed to our new mobile self-checkout stands and a receipt will generate. The MacBook is required to manage the ipads. Additionally, I am supplementing our already school appropriate library catalog with books to purposely connect to our African American and LatinX student population. With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level with a true personal connection. They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
