  • Maraca-lous Beats!

    Funded Apr 2, 2025

Thank you for donating to our "Maraca-lous Beats" project. Your donation will ensure that every child in my classroom has an opportunity to play an instrument during music therapy. This will encourage socialization, self-expression, communication, and motor skills in a fun and engaging environment! We feel blessed to be the recipients of your generosity. It warms my heart to know that our community is filled with angels who genuinely care about our students and their learning. We appreciate your support and are forever grateful!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Johnson-Walls

  • A Writer's Paradise

    Funded Sep 24, 2024

There aren't enough words to adequately express my happiness and sincere gratitude for your generous donations to our class project.

As soon as I learned that our project was funded, I immediately shared the news with my students. There were hugs, high fives, and even tears of joy (from me, of course). In that moment, each of us realized that our dream of creating a Writer's Paradise in our classroom had become a reality because a community of angels, many of whom we had never met, cared about us and were willing to take action to ensure that we had access to high quality and engaging writing materials.

My students see themselves as authors and enjoy writing about a variety of topics. Spooky Halloween, Winter Wonderland, Math, and How to Be a Friend books can be found throughout our classroom. They are writing letters to friends, family and even Santa Claus! They love using gel markers to add details to their writing and illustrations. Simply put, our Writing Center is buzzing with excitement!

I am excited by how much my students love to write and feel blessed to be the recipient of your kindness and generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Johnson-Walls

    Funded Feb 7, 2025

"Thank you for donating to our "We Paint Our Dreams, We Paint Our World" project. Your donation will ensure that every child in my classroom is able to creatively express their emotions, thoughts, and dreams while experiencing the calming power of painting. We feel so blessed to be the recipients of your generosity. It warms my heart to know that our community is filled with angels who genuinely care about our students and their learning. We appreciate your support and are forever grateful!"”

  • Strengthening Skills and Building Independence

    Funded Aug 27, 2024

Thank you for donating to our "Strengthening Skills and Building Independence" project. Your donation allowed every child in my classroom to have access to student-centered, engaging activities that allowed them to focus on a set of skills and deepen their knowledge and abilities in that area.

We added the new activities to our center rotations and the children loved them! They could choose from a variety of "hands on" activities and practice their academic skills independently. Every student was focused and engaged! I especially appreciated that many of the centers could be easily differentiated to meet the individual needs of the students who were using them.

I am forever grateful to you for helping my students strengthen their skills and build independence!”

    With gratitude,

  • We Are Authors!

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Thank you so much for contributing to our "We Are Authors" project. Thanks to you, my students will have an opportunity to publish their very own books. They have spent the past few months brainstorming their ideas, organizing their thoughts, meeting with their peers, revising their writing, and creating their illustrations. Next month, they will begin publishing their stories.

The idea of becoming an author has generated so much excitement in our classroom that we decided to host a publishing party where families and friends will be invited to our classroom to listen to our authors read their stories.

Not only are my students excited to write, but they are more confident writers. They are proud authors and illustrators who are creating memories and developing skills that will last for a lifetime!

This would not be possible without your support. We are forever grateful!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Johnson-Walls

  • More Non-Fiction and a Place to Store It, Please!

    Funded Feb 16, 2017

There aren't enough words to express my happiness and sincere gratitude for your generous donations to our class project.

As soon as I learned that our project was funded, I immediately shared the news with my students. There were hugs, high fives, and even tears of joy (from me, of course). In that moment, each of us realized that our dream of having more informational texts in our classroom library had become a reality because a community of angels, many of whom we had never met, cared about us and were willing to take action to ensure that we had access to high quality informational books

My students have become "first grade experts" on so many topics. I am constantly bombarded with information. Yesterday, one of my students asked me, "Did you know that a farmer uses parts of two apple trees to start a new tree?" Another student was amazed to learn that some of our clothing is made from cotton that grows on trees.

My students' vocabularies are growing as well. I chuckled to myself as a student read that a butterfly looks for a mate. She went on to say that a mate is someone/something that you may want to use to reproduce :)

I am amazed by how much my students have learned and feel blessed to be the recipient of your kindness and generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Johnson-Walls

I love teaching first grade because you have an opportunity to watch children grow as readers and writers throughout the year. There is nothing more rewarding than watching the excitement on a child's face when they read a book independently for the very first time. This year, our school is using the Lucy Calkins Reading Units. This curriculum has armed my students with the tools they need to live literate lives. They are reading books throughout the day and devouring them faster than I can find them. As we learn more about our world by studying nonfiction text, it has become increasingly evident to me that in order to meet the diverse needs of my students, I must increase the number of non-fiction books in my leveled library. I want my children to be exposed to books that interest them yet allow them to feel successful as readers. This leveled library set and seat storage would provide them with more opportunities to read high interest books independently and personal storage space for safe keeping and easy access. Thank you in advance for your consideration!
