The easel and chart stand will be used on a daily basis during our whole group lessons to display charts, webs, writing, pictures, story books and other visual supports. Whole group instruction is very important for students with disabilities because it teaches them to learn in a more naturalistic environment and generalize the skills they learn during 1:1 lessons, but because I don't have a chart stand I have to lay these visual supports on out our table, which makes the materials difficult for the students to see and is distracting for some students who are tempted to reach out and grab the materials due to their impulsiveness. The chart stand would give me an effective way to display learning materials to my students which would help my students to focus and learn more efficiently.
The room divider will significantly minimize distractions to my students during 1:1 instruction and large group lessons, which will help them to learn more effectively. Children with autism are easily distracted and very sensitive to visuals in their environment. Something as simple as a poster on the wall can inhibit a student's ability to focus and perform successfully during instruction. The divider will help to block out visual distractions so my students can learn better.
The trampoline will be used to provide movement breaks for my students. I have a busy group of young learners who frequently engage in hyperactive behaviors such as running and jumping around the classroom. It is important for young children to be given opportunities for movement throughout the day to decrease incidences of these hyperactive behaviors during instructional time, unfortunately our class has limited access to movement activities. The trampoline will provide my students with a fun way to get exercise which will help them to focus better during lessons.
