Due to the various disabilities in my classroom, my students require access to sensory materials that aide in their focusing ability during lessons. If they are able to have increased focus, then they will be able to retain information more accurately. One way for students to be able to better access the curriculum is to move, have flexible seating, or use sensory items. The students have a need for movement during activities in order for sensory input and output. Sensory processing toys such as exercise balls and fidget toys are a good way to give them non-distracting movement. These toys will help them focus their attention and energy on something, which in turn, will help them learn and retain information more effectively In our class, we do everything we can to help our students be successful. The items I'm requesting are just a few tools we used to do this. The handheld sensory toys, chewables, time timers, and wobble seats will provide movement for the students when sitting. This way, they do not need to up and moving out of their chair and can better focus on information being taught.
