Funded Feb 10, 2024My second grade students adore this book series!! We have been reading these books in our book club during our Reading block. My students read a chapter independently or with a partner and then we reconvene, as a group, to discuss the read chapter. This discussion fosters comprehension, sharing predictions, vocabulary development and conversation skills. This particular series takes place in Washington, DC. My students are following the various settings in each book on a map of D.C. We have take some virtual field trips to further explore the many DC landmarks.
These books are available to all students in my classroom, but the enrichment they can provide my higher readers is fabulous. I have seen significant improvement in the comprehension and vocabulary assessment scores of these higher readers. These students are discussing their desires to visit Washington DC some day as a result of reading about the Lincoln Memorial, Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, the United States Capitol and more.
You have helped these children not only develop a love of reading, but also a desire to further explore our country. Your generous donations are so greatly appreciated.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Dunham
