My English Language Arts classes will use the microphones while reading stories, poems, and plays aloud in class. The portable microphones will serve as a tool for helping students to improve their reading fluency. In addition, students who normally do not volunteer to read aloud may be motivated to do so because they can use the mics. One of the goals outlined by my district, is for all 4th graders is to be able to read 123 words per minute by Spring 2017. However, nearly 90% of my students are not currently meeting the benchmark standard of 100 words per minute. Therefore, I am seeking alternative methods to help them improve their reading fluency and achieve 100% mastery.
