  • Supplies for a Colorful Curriculum Needed!

    Funded Jan 15, 2019

Thank you again for your generous contributions to my classroom supplies. The Velcro, ink, and laminate sheets have allowed me to revamp my curriculum. The students love new activities, and they were especially excited when they saw that it was in color ink! Many of the students learn best with hands-on activities. The supplies granted me the ability to make colorful, interactive, fun activities that complement their daily lessons. Not only do they enjoy the activities, the routine has helped the students gain independence in completing work with minimal to no assistance! Thank you so much; we were very lucky to be the beneficiaries to your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Spencer

  • Sensational Sensory Experience Needed!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

My students have been thoroughly enjoying all of the new gifts we have received thanks to your generosity! The Marble Run is definitely a class favorite. It has been a great motivator; students are very willingly completing their work for the opportunity to play with the Marble Run. While the students are enjoying the Marble Run, they are also building on their engineering, reasoning, and organization skills!

The Thera-putty has also been a very welcomed tool into the classroom. We have been lacking this for the past few months. The putty helps to calm some of my students and allows them to attend to lessons for extended periods of time. In addition, it helps improve their fine motor abilities! The additional sensory balls have also helped in this area!

The kinetic sand was an unexpected treat! It came with a large inflatable case and different shovels and toys. The students love building different castles and buildings. It is a very calming/quiet activity, and because it is kinetic, clean!

Thank you again! You have provided my classroom with such joy-we cannot thank you enough!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Spencer

  • Curriculum to Start the Year Off Right!

    Funded Aug 24, 2017

Thanks to you, my students have an abundance of new and fun activities to complement their daily lessons. They are eager to explore all of the different tasks. The students especially like the pattern block puzzles. Each day after lunch, the students choose a folder activity or learning center to complete. Upon completion, they choose a pattern block puzzle as a reward. Not only do they enjoy the activities, the routine has helped the students gain independence in completing work with minimal to no assistance! Thank you so much; we were very lucky to be the beneficiaries to your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Spencer

  • Sensory Activities Needed!

    Funded Jun 26, 2017

I cannot thank you enough for your generous contributions to my classroom. The students were met with fun new supplies and activities at the start of the school year. Many of the items are crucial to increasing productivity. My students are more willing to complete their work for a reward such as the Moon Sand or the sensory beads. They are hot ticket items :). The Thera-putty is also a much needed item in the classroom. Several of my students have difficulty sitting at their desks for extended periods of time. Some of the individuals have autism and are unable to regulate without assistance. The texture and consistency of the Thera-putty is very therapeutic. It helps calm some of the students, resulting in more on-task and sitting behaviors.

Finally, the storage cubes have brought a new element of organization to the classroom. The students are able to retrieve and return activities with minimal assistance. We also have less items turning up lost!

Thank you again for your generosity to my classroom. My students have begun the school year in a great way thanks to you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Spencer

  • Sticky Business!

    Funded Jan 5, 2017

The students have been introduced to a variety of new activities thanks to you! Each student has an individualized and interactive binder that includes activities specific to their needs and their IEP goals. The students use these daily and continue to show great gains!

Some of the activities the binders include: identifying birthday, phone number, address, colors, currency, and shapes. The students are also required to sequence the alphabet and numbers, identify the seasons, the date, and the weather, and spell out their first and last name.

These activities are not only academic, but functional as well. Much of the information included in the binders is crucial for the students to know. The supplies provided by the generous donors have allowed for such activities, and in addition, are able to be reused for years to come! Thanks again!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Spencer

  • In Need of Sensory Experiences!

    Funded Nov 12, 2016

There has been a significant difference in the behavior of the students since receiving these items. My students immediately noticed the new furniture and flocked towards it. Many of them are willing to complete more work in order to receive time on the trampoline, play with the moon sand, or read a book in the canoe. While my students are unable to express their feelings verbally, it is very apparent that they enjoy their new items. Their faces are bright with smiles when they are playing with the moon sand and sensory beads. They can barely wait their turn for the trampoline, canoe, or bean bag chair they are so excited. You have brought such joy to the class!

We have worked the items into a positive reinforcement system. The students are required to complete work, and then they choose what they do during their "break." These new items to the class are highly motivational, so we have lots of work getting done! (Much more than before!)Thank you again for your kindness!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Spencer

Many of my students have autism. With this, many of the individuals are unable to self-regulate. They become over-stimulated or under-stimulated and need assistance to regulate. When this happens, students display behaviors that include: aggression, self-harm, and yelling. These not only disrupt the individual's learning, but the learning of their peers. Items like the 'Cozy Canoe,' the trampoline, and the bean bag chair will help calm students and decrease agitation. In addition to decreasing behaviors, the sensory experiences will appeal to all senses, ensuring all learning styles are addressed. The class has a sensory part of the day where the students are able to explore these different senses. The sensory table can be filled with many different textures such as water beads, sand, and rice. The touch, sight, sound, and kinesthetic components are a big motivation to students. The moon sand helps the students to develop their fine motor skills through an enjoyable experience. With your help, the classroom can become an engaging and accommodating environment necessary for functional and academic development.
