Our ESL program at F. C. Elementary School continues to grow. I have 4 new speakers in my collaborative class with a total of 45 students on my case load. I want to be able to provide comfortable and flexible seating for my students in order for me to teach at least 6 students at a time comfortably. Being in a collaborative class is wonderful however, our space is limited when more students are being pulled into the classroom to receive services. Using flexible seating such as stools will cause less disruption in the classroom when having to sit comfortably for a lesson as well as keep students happy and learning in their personal space without having to squeeze in a chair or accidentally kicking their classmates. Flexible seating will make room for smooth and quick transitions as students rotate during small group instruction. The stools mentioned above will help maximize the space for my small group and students will have leg room and personal space while working and learning together. Now is the time to embrace flexible seating for our classroom as we continue to learn and grow in our English collaborative classroom. Throughout my observation in my school I have learned that flexible seating promotes engagement and boosts student motivation, as well as improves behaviors. I am motivated to incorporate this in our classroom as materials and space is the foundation of our success!
