Funded Jan 19, 2018Sometimes, bigger really is better ! As you can see from our photos, the big books that we were able to purchase, thanks to you, have captured the attention of my students in a big way. The children are enjoying the stories and learning about the concepts of print. The new books have also inspired art projects and dramatic play.
One of the things that my students enjoy doing is using my special pointer to track print from left to right across the page, as they know good readers do. They are able to point to specific letters and identify some punctuation marks. Many are able to distinguish between upper and lower case letters and numbers. All can identify the cover, the spine and the back of a book and can turn pages one at a time. It is so much easier for children sitting farther away to see the print, because it is so large.
We have come a long way in a short amount of time and have learned a lot about the mechanics of reading. The best thing, though, about these big books is that they have helped the children to think of themselves as readers.”
With gratitude,
