My students are inner city middle school teens, most of them second language learners coming from impoverished homes. These students are so naive to the world outside their neighborhood, or ignorant to the notion that there are opportunities at their grasp other then teen pregnancy or gang ties. Coming to our school, they are exposed to many lessons, life skills, positive role models and encouragement that there is a vast existence beyond their "hood". It's unfortunate that our school's budget is sparse and we as teachers have to improvise and make the best of the resources at our disposal to enlighten our students to their future possibilities.
