An iPad would provide a powerful platform for a broad range of student activities from research and writing to creating audio and video content. Using social media, such as blogs, students can connect and collaborate with a larger community of learners. They can access e-books, online books, and educational apps. Coupled with a projector, the iPad can be used for whole class activities as well. Most student projects are full of vibrant color. Their reports often contain photos, diagrams, charts, and graphics of all kinds. An image from the internet or original artwork often accompanies their book responses. My students need a color printer to share their amazing work on walls, bulletin boards, and in their portfolios. As the teacher, I can use the color printer to create attractive brochures and other print communications for students and their families. Also, my class displays and signs can be colorful and eye-catching. Presentations of student work should not be limited to black and white! They need a color printer to bring their exciting projects to life. Of course, having only one iPad in a class is not ideal, but it is a start. My students deserve more access to current technologies, as well as to an attractive, colorful environment in which to work.
