  • Fascinating Forensics

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Our students have loved all of the materials that were donated through your generosity. We have done many of the forensic puzzles in the books. Their favorites have been matching fingerprints and completing the logic puzzles.

We studied shoe prints and how to collect those as well!

Finally, our culminating project is to design a Clue style game using knowledge that they gained through our forensics unit (fingerprinting, blood analysis, anthropology, footprint analysis, and toxicology.

Students played the variety of Clue games that we got through this project to learn about the design elements of Clue and will use that information to design their own games.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hubbard

  • Rotary Tools and Safety Equipment for Middle School

    Funded Aug 7, 2019

We are so grateful for our multitools that we received from your generous grants. Students have been using the multitools to cut, carve, and sand wood. The majority of our use of the multitools have been during maker time. During this time, students have freedom to design, build, test, and re-design, as many times as necessary to get their projects just right.

Having the multitools opens up collaboration among classrooms as well. I have met with the industrial tech teacher for tips on using the multitools. Students have used them for projects with other teachers' classrooms as well.

The students knew the multitools were coming and were delighted when they arrived. They had a chance to experiment with them to find out which tips do what and practiced with a piece of wood. They felt powerful using tools that they'd not had a chance to use before. The ladies in the class particularly felt powerful using the multitools, along with our classroom drill. This is one more step in developing strong, independent women!

Thank you again for your generous donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hubbard

  • Maker Time with Building Blocks

    Funded Feb 17, 2017

We were so excited to receive our Legos and K'Nex in the mail today! We opened them right away and got to work. The fifth graders I had today were each able to choose a Lego kit or K'Nex kit and there were plenty of materials for everyone. Students built and rebuilt with the Legos, some following written directions, others went for free creation. Students created circuits and moving machines with the K'Nex kits. They were engaged in Maker Time and creating with our new materials for over an hour today and were disappointed that our school day was over. Not only were they creating, but also they were collaborating and helping each other come up with ideas, improve ideas, and giving advice when another student was stuck or faced a problem. There were no worksheets and no textbooks involved, yet students learned so much about engineering, failing at a design, and working to make it better while enhancing team work skills! We are so grateful to our donors who provided us with our new Maker Materials! Thank you!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hubbard

What is the value of creativity? Creativity is research in action. Kids move through the entire process of researching when creating. They ask questions, think about how to solve them, try it out, and revise their work without prompting. Creating with Legos and K'Nex and other building materials provides a high-interest activity to foster the creative process for children (and adults!), which will prepare them to compete in a global workforce that will have jobs available that don't even exist yet. Creativity gives students experience to fail and re-create many times over, developing perseverance in work, which is a skill that many gifted kids need experience in developing. They do not know how to experience failure and keep moving forward. By having these materials available in my classroom, I can not only reach the gifted children but also students that come into my class for science enrichment. Other tea
