My students have different needs that need to be met to allow each child to feel comfortable and ready to learn. Many students with disabilities require different types of sensory input than a typically developing student in order to learn and feel calm, these same students may also need extra help in training their muscles to help them to sit up or walk properly. My students need to improve their muscle tone with gross motor, fine motor, and sensory input activities to allow them to make progress in their school and personal lives. The activities and materials in this project will be used on a daily basis to give the students in my classroom and special education population at the school an opportunity to hone skills that many people take for granted. The pillow seats will help students with low-tone muscles practice sitting up without an overload of stress to their bodies. The tunnels, bike, and stepping stones give the students an opportunity to increase their strength and practice gross motor movements. Fidgets and vibrating pillows can act as a way give sensory input to students with hyposensitivity, this input can act as a way to calm students enough to allow them to access academic materials. Each item in this project has a specific ability to help these students increase muscle tone and improve their gross and fine motor functioning. By allowing these students to access these activities and materials their individual sensory input needs can be met in different ways that ideally will calm and enable student learning.
