Learning from home has been a challenge for everyone. Our school is using hybrid and remote only cohorts. This set up has made obvious many challenges that come with virtual learning, especially the effects of technology capabilites. So much time is spent on, "I can't hear you, Can you hold that closer, etc." Setting up at home work areas has been challenging and expensive. My students live in a town that's up on a mountain, and internet connectivity is a challenge. I would like to provide a better experience to keep them engaged and attentive. When other teachers are using a ring light or a standing microphone, I notice the increased quality of sound and light, and I wish to have this for my students, especially with students who have varied learning needs. If the students had their own microphones, it would boost their confidence knowing they "will be heard." Being asked to repeat oneself is stressful for many shy or struggling students. I would be so grateful for any donations. Students often create projects to demonstrate learning and these tools will be used to allow students to engage more when I am teaching. Also, they will feel "like a pro" when asked to present or record for assignmnets. Individual microphones will increase their confidence, productivity, and engagement in their learning. These supplies will be useful in years to come - whether they are used by all in a "regular" or "virtual" classroom. With increased budget restraints because of the need of districts to purchase so many supplies for virus safety, items like these would not be purchased in the near future.
