  • Positivity for Pupils!

    Funded Dec 15, 2021

I am SO grateful for your generosity in sponsoring my project, Positivity for Pupils!!! I have received all prizes, and I have placed them in the "shoe holder" for students to see. We call it the "TK Ticket Trade". Students are positively reinforced with tickets on a daily basis. Tickets can be traded for prizes on Fridays. Students also have the option of saving tickets to trade for prizes for which they need to earn more tickets. Initially, prizes were available for 25-250 tickets. I have since adjusted the ticket prize numbers to 10-60 tickets.

Students noticed the Ticket Trade right away. They were SO excited! All students decided which prize they wanted, and wanted to earn tickets right away! Students are motivated to behave, so that they can earn as many tickets as possible. Students are also quick to change negative behaviors, when it is possible to have a ticket taken away.

Many students have picked prizes already. The favorite thus far is the ball point pen, which contains multiple colors. Other students are saving tickets for another favorite, a "pop it" fidget toy.

Thank you once again for your generosity! This project is helping my students to control their behavior, during this pandemic, which took a year of traditional school and socializing practice away from them.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Eickmann

  • Multicultural Toys for TK Students!

    Funded Jun 27, 2020

Thank you SO much for the multicultural dolls and toy food you donated to my classroom. The sad events of this past summer, such as the killings of George Floyd and Breanna Taylor, re-opened my eyes to the current issues of racism and white supremacy in our society. Though I knew that these issues were problematic, these very unfortunate events were a brutal reminder of their current, and very real, existence. As a TK teacher, I want for all children, of all backgrounds, to be comfortable in my classroom. It is important that every student feels a sense of belonging, and by providing an atmosphere full of toys and decor which represent them all, I can do so more effectively. The presence of these toys also allows for students to realize, appreciate, and learn about each other's differences. Though students are not currently present in my classroom due to COVID-19, I am so happy to look around at the new toys. And, I know that when the students return, they will see, discuss, and be able to play with, dolls which represent every one of them. Again, I am SO grateful for your support! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Happy Holidays!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Eickmann

  • Artwork! Artwork! Here and There! Artwork! Artwork! Everywhere!

    Funded Sep 2, 2019

I am SO happy to have these racks for student art projects to dry. I used to have student art drying all over the classroom, which created a disorganized mess, and limited my valuable and limited counter space.

This week, we have been studying the apple life cycle. Today, students used paper plates and markers to create their own apples. Students glued dry black beans on their apples to represent apple seeds. The glue wasn't dry by the time students were ready to be dismissed. Now, the apples are conveniently on the drying racks, not all over the classroom, and will be dry and ready to go home on Monday.

Thank you SO much for your generosity. Organization tools, such as these drying racks, make teaching so much easier.”

    With gratitude,

  • Storage for Chromebooks

    Funded Apr 5, 2019

I am so happy to have the new docking station for my students' Chromebooks!!! The students are now independently able to put their Chromebooks away, which saves so much academic time!!!

When the students take the Chromebooks out, they play academic games such as Starfall, and read along with books on Footsteps to Brilliance. Learning to use technology to promote literacy is very important for students. The docking station provides important opportunities for students to practice organization and independence.

The technology also provides non-English speaking students opportunities to learn English with programs such as Imagine Learning. Additionally, students with behavior difficulties or learning disabilities are sometimes better able to focus when using technology. These students also benefit from the docking station, learning to be independent and organized as well.

Thank you again for your donation! You have made a difference!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Eickmann

  • Technology in TK!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

I am overjoyed to have the Chromebooks you provided in our classroom this year!!! The children are now able to play educational computer games during their literacy center time. Their favorite websites thus far are "Footsteps to Brilliance" and "Starfall". The laptops you donated give me the ability to be able to work with a small group, teaching them their letters and sounds, while the small group with the Chromebooks is about to learn about computer use and academics, utilizing educational websites.

The students were absolutely thrilled when they got to use the Chromebooks!!! They excitedly anticipated using them from the day your packages arrived! Students are so focused when they are working with the Chromebooks, which gives me the ability to teach the other small groups, as opposed to simply "policing" the class.

The children look forward to using the Chromebooks every time I bring them out. And, the computers are especially valuable for children with special needs, who cannot generally focus their attention for a long period of time. I am CERTAIN that this is an experience with technology that these children will always remember. Thank you SO much for making it possible for them!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Eickmann

  • Cover Our Chromebooks!

    Funded May 20, 2018

Thank you SO much for your generous gift, which has funded covers for my students' new Chrome books! I am very much looking forward to watching them expand their knowledge with the new technology. And, now if dropped, the Chrome books will be safe! Thank you again for your generosity!!!”

  • Hatching Chicks in TK!

    Funded Nov 8, 2016

I am thrilled to have hatched 10 chicks in our classroom this year, utilizing the incubators and accessories which you provided to make it possible!!! The children have kept "egg journals" during the 21-day incubation period. I was also able to "candle" the eggs on a weekly basis using the "OvaScope" you donated to literally show the children how the embryos changed each week. The chicks have been warm, fed, and hydrated thanks to your donations of the heat lamp and feeding dishes.

The students were absolutely thrilled when the materials got to school, as I had already spoke about hatching the chicks before they arrived. They excitedly anticipated the arrival of the baby chicks from the day your packages came! Every day, the anticipation grew, as we observed the eggs in the incubator, and under the OvaScope. And, when the eggs hatched last Thursday, (during our class, and during Open House!!!), the children were ecstatic!!! They literally got to observe brand new hatchlings in our classroom!!

Now that the chicks are dry, and out of the incubator, the children are able to observe them, pet them, and hold them. Once again, they are beyond thrilled! Because of your donation, the students have been able to predict, observe the (live) life cycle of a chick, and write about their findings, all standards for Transitional Kindergarten. I am CERTAIN that this is an experience that these children will always remember. Thank you SO much for making it possible for them!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Eickmann

STEM is a very important aspect of education, even in Transitional Kindergarten!!! Predicting, (live) observation, and journaling is research-based techniques for scientific learning, which are invaluable in early education. We will observe each stage of development by keeping a calendar of the 21-day process. Students will record each stage in their journals. They will be able to predict what the chicks will look like and their capabilities when they hatch. Students will watch chicks hatch live in our classroom. Chicks will be hatching at Open House so that students can explain the process to their parents. Through developing and hatching chicks in our classroom, students will learn about the scientific process, and it will be memorable and therefore provide a solid foundation for lifelong learning in life science.
