Whitesville Needs Storage for Success

Funded Nov 27, 2018

My appreciation is matched with that of a flower in a drought that has just received rain. Our room is so small and it has limited space for storage. I use tables for the students because it is a space saver and neatly organized. The students are to learn organizational skills and the bookshelves have been a success in teaching this strategy. No more papers on the floor. No more yelling out, "Who does this belong to?" Every thing has a place and every thing is in it's place. During transition times, it goes so smoothly. We have a head of table that gets the materials and this has made it so very nice. Thank you so much.

When the materials first arrived, the students were like vultures on a prey. This is where the classroom management went flying out the window. I didn't mind, for I too, was very excited. They kept saying, "put them together" but I told them, it would have to wait. At the end of the day, I stayed late and put two together. The next morning two groups had their shelves and they were so excited. Needless to say, the others were jealous. During my planning, I put the other two shelves together. Now we have a happy classroom. I put the last one together to collect their papers and storage for notebook paper. My classroom is wonderfully organized and runs like a well oiled machine.

Now that the organization is in place we can focus on new projects. One project is a year long project on a country of their choice. They learn about the culture, job market, terrain and location of their country. Some students may never get to leave to explore different parts of the world. This is a way for students to see the world. We also use Google Earth and explore their countries. The final project is a PowerPoint presentation they create of their country. For a year long project, students must be organized. There are no more lost assignments, thanks to organization.”

With gratitude,
