Making Math Come Alive!
Funded Dec 2, 2018I genuinely thank every and each one for your generous contribution. It really helped students to make connections between what they learn in classroom and its application in real life. Students are now able to search the topic that they want to look up related to the subject and have broader perspective of the subject mathematics.
Students often use the tablets after school, which they voluntarily stay to get extra help. Students complete their assignments on Khan Academy and go over their mistakes with the teacher. It really helps them to practice the skills they lack. The lesson now is more student centered and project based.
Students utilize the tablets in not just math class but in science, social studies, and ELA. Writing a research paper had been made easier for them because they can start the research and writing right there in the class room with the teacher's assistance. For instance, in celebration of black history month, students were asked to write a research paper in ELA and social studies class. Most of them were under the impression that the black history is celebrated in February because it is the shortest month and the African American did not earn enough credit to be celebrated in longer months or months with nicer weather. After they did research using the tablet, students understood why February was deliberately selected to celebrate African Americans and had a meaningful discussion. I just had to share this experience with you, donors, because it was such a powerful moment all thanks to your generous heart and contributions.
This was such a heart warming experience for my students and myself. We also talked about the virtues, such as generosity and giving and how they could positively effect the community and society to become better. My students and I appreciate your giving and will continue to math (and other subject) come alive!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Kim
