My students love technology! Although we are an extremely low socioeconomic school, we have been fortunate to receive some grants, however technology goes to our 3rd-5th graders. Like the youngest child in the family, the Kindergarten receives hand-me-downs. We received some working first generation Ipad passed down to us. However, we cannot download more than 2 educational games on them due to the iOS cannot be updated past 5.1. The sound has gone out entirely and frozen screens have become our norm. Our tech guy from the district says that Apple no longer supports the first generation and he suggested I use them as coasters, as there is nothing left for him to do to fix them. Now my students who were once so excited to learn on the Ipads, turn away from them because the majority of the time they don't work. It is hard for me to see my students give up and be disappointed with technology. Our world is rapidly changing to technology and I do not want them to be left behind with idea that Ipads are useless. If we received the funding for these mini ipads and cases, my students will be able to learn with ST Math, literacy games to improve letter and sound knowledge as well as reading levels shortly after that. We have a behavior management plan through Classdojo that students could then take pictures and show their work on the app. I have numerous educational games for ipads that I found while working at other districts and am hopeful to show my students this year. Overall, my students will be challenged, motivated, engaged and excited (once again) to learn with technology!
