Safe & Creative Art Room
Funded Apr 21, 2022Though I still have ways to go with my project, your contribution makes an impact in my classroom. I hope to have enough tables for at least 30 of my art students one day and one by one I get closer to accomplishing that goal. The tables are a hit, my students love the white surface and the bar under helps as a fidget without distractions. So far I have three tables and the three students that get to sit there at random, really appreciate the new tables. It gives them each their own independent space and room for their artwork. They feel special and I can't wait to have all my students feel that way.”

Funded Nov 10, 2021Thanks to your donation I have begun to provide my students with better desks and a better classroom environment. So far, I was only able to obtain 2/40 but I will continue to look for more. Though, I only have two desks, I can definitely tell you that the desks pass the "lemon law" test. Our students are in love and prefer these tables. I was able to purchase the desks that have a swinging rail at the bottom for the legs and the kids love it. It helps with their nerves, anxiety and just helps them relax in general.
In the beginning they did not understand what the swinging bar was for, and it even bothered them. Now that they have figured out what it was for, they can't help but take turns with the desks.
My next steps as a teacher, is to keep obtaining 38 more tables and look for high bar stools for my future artists. Once I have accomplished this, I will be able to rearrange all the student desk to face the teacher rather than have half of my students face the opposite direction and having cranks on their necks for looking back.
Once again, thank you so much for your generosity.”

This classroom project was brought to life by #TeachHealthy with Nature Made.My Inner Animal Mask
Funded Dec 29, 2016We were able to create masks out of the papier mache and the paint supplies that you all donated. Most of the students had never used papier mache and they loved it. Jessica said, "Ms.Castillo this feels so weird! But it is so cool cause it's going to give my elephant that extra 'stuff' it needs on the trunk". Students in my class were able to make the three-dimensional masks and they learned to add texture to make their masks more realistic. A lot of them took pride in their masks as they did represent their very newly discovered spiritual/ inner animal. Then they added a lot of color by mixing only the primary colors and they added different designs all around with the paint. Students created, wolfs, cats, bears, a butterfly, a bunny and more. At the end of the project the students were amazed not only by their own work, but by the work their fellow classmates created.
When the student first saw the delivery of our new supplies come in, they were really surprised and happy. They did not stop asking, "so when are we going to start painting Ms.Castillo?" Since many of my students had never touched a paint brush before, they were really excited to start and try it out.
Next, we are going to incorporate what the students learned about themselves through the animal spirits and paint self portraits. For that, we will need a lot more paint and a lot more variety in color. Students will keep discovering new skills and most importantly start discovering themselves, their likes, their dislikes, where they come from, their family culture and more. All of this will be applied into their self portraits. School session is now over, so I hope that I can count on your support on any future projects I may have for next year this coming summer.”
