This classroom project was brought to life by Omidyar Network and one other donor.Help Them Talk!-AAC Device to Develop Language
Funded Jan 1, 2017I am so excited that my students have an I-Pad to interact with! They remain engaged in activities, are excited to participate, and have learned to generalize the information used on the I-Pad to their everyday classroom activities. Thank you so much for giving my students the opportunity to learn from a new and different kind of technology.
The first day it came I had them open the box. They became so excited that we used it that very day! Although they are "playing games" on the I-Pad I am able to create a lesson plan that engages them and helps them learn and do work without even knowing it!
So thank you so much for this opportunity and your generosity. You made the days of a few very deserving kids.”

Body and Mind Input: Materials for a Deaf Ed Classroom
Funded Oct 27, 2016Your generous donation has impacted my classroom greatly and my student's education in return. The first book we did was "It Looks Like Spilt Milk". The kids enjoyed it so much and even folded construction paper with white paint in the middle making a "surprise" picture. They got to guess what they made and use their imagination as to what the blob of paint might be.
When my students first saw the materials they were ecstatic. They got to help open the package and take out all of the materials. The books were a huge hit, as well as the sensory input items. One student immediately grabbed the weighted blanket and a book and sat down to read. They each got to choose a book to look at for the rest of the session and together we did book walks to tell the stories.
Our next steps are to use the shapes book we received and use real food to relate shapes within the story to real food found in the grocery store. I have told them that we will be doing that next week and they are very excited. Thank you so much for these materials and opportunity for my students' education.”

Mrs. Giglio
