These Bee-bots make coding accessible to the youngest of learners. Over the past few years, we have provided Hour of Code lessons to all of our students, kindergarten through 5th grade. They have loved learning how to program their worlds. However, the Hour Of Code sites often get too challenging for our kindergarten and first grade students. Bee-bots provide developmentally appropriate, exciting, hands-on ways for these young students to learn coding as well. The simple commands and 3 dimensional aspect make coding much more real to young students. It makes coding an activity they can relate to. We allow students to retell familiar stories, match infant to adult animals, read high frequency words, and navigate maps and communities using the Bee-bots as teaching tools. By presenting coding at a young age it makes it a natural part of life for all students.
