Namastay in Class
Funded Jan 9, 2020Thank you so much for your generosity! Your kindness will forever impact my heart.
Yoga has given me the physical and mental space to heal, grow, and reset. I know that this practice will only continue to serve my students as they continue to mold into the best versions of themselves.
It means absolutely everything to my students and I that people, like you, exist in this world. People, like you, that are willing to share your pure kindness with others.
From the bottom of all of your hearts, thank you.”
With gratitude,

Reading for the Truth
Funded Oct 19, 2017First and foremost, THANK YOU, from the bottom of our hearts! Being able to provide new high-interest nonfiction texts for our students has been an extraordinary gift, that you have been able to give to us.
In our classrooms, students are introduced to the idea of reading very early on in the year. As teachers, we have tried to impact students thinking of reading as something that should not be forced but rather a simple pleasure in life. Especially when it comes to nonfiction, as this is not the first genre of writing that students tend to lean towards.
These books were designated for our Silent Reading time, during every class, in which students get to choose a book of their choice and read for twenty minutes a day. This time is designated at the beginning of each period in hopes to have students settle and relax, as they transition from my class to the next. This reading is completely silent with no technology allowed. It is a moment to show students that spending a brief twenty minutes a day can allow you to fully understand and appreciate the importance of dedicating time for yourself and reading.
I think each of these books has engaged all of our students because it delves into controversial topics and issues surrounding the current state of our country. All of the students ranted and raved about how much they enjoyed them.
Thank you again for your generous donations and allowing our students to enjoy reading!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Wilkens

Funded Oct 17, 2016First and foremost, THANK YOU! Being able to provide new high-interest books for our students has been an extraordinary gift, that you have been able to give to us.
In my classroom, students are introduced to the idea of reading very early on in the year. As a teacher, I have tried to impact students thinking of reading as something that should not be forced but rather a simple pleasure in life. In order to encourage students to want to read for fun, I have to get students excited about what they are reading. This requires giving students the opportunity to read books, such as "The Girl On the Train," that are high-interest and relevant books that will engage students in reading.
These books were designated for our Silent Reading time, during every class, in which students get to choose a book of their choice and read for twenty minutes a day. This time is designated at the end of each period in hopes to have students settle and relax, as they transition from my class to the next. This reading is completely silent with no technology allowed. It is a moment to show students that spending a brief twenty minutes a day can allow you to fully understand and appreciate the importance of dedicating time for yourself and reading.
I think this book has engaged all types of students because it was recently made into a movie and has created a big enough hype that other students have been talking about it. I think this is why it is so important for students to obtain high-interest books because it gives them a gateway to enjoy a book that others seem to enjoy, as well. This then leads to not only reading about books, but having conversations about them!
Thank you again for your generous donation and allowing my students to enjoy reading!”

Ms. Wilkens
