SIMS - Stocking Up for Awesome Labs!
Funded Oct 12, 2015My students and I were so happy and excited when we received all of the wonderful laboratory supplies! You have made it possible for us to do many activities.
The nitrile gloves have been used during our quail conservation project. As you can imagine, animals can be a dirty business, and have required daily attention. The gloves were also especially appreciated when the students were testing fake urine for the presence of glucose or protein. They, of course, thought it was real urine, ha! The scales were used for many purposes as well. One of the favorites was recording the daily mass of the baby birds as they grew!
Having tools and supplies such as those you provided make all the difference in meaningful science education! And some of them will benefit students for years to come! God bless you for your gift!”

Mrs. Terrell
SIMS - Sharing Data with the World - 2
Funded Oct 12, 2015My students and I were so excited when the new computer arrived! It is beautiful, and it is such a nice computer for the price. It has a nice big screen, and it is even a touch screen!
We have already put it to good use in our classroom. Students have been able to use it for research on various projects we have worked on, such as finding temperature data from several cities around the globe so we could figure out what seasons they were having. We also were able to enter rain data on the COCORAHS website where we are helping to provide data for scientists all over the world. We live in an agricultural area, and have been helping to grow and gather data on millet plants which can potentially be used for biofuel. In this project, we used the new computer to submit data gathered to the Arkansas Biosciences Institute. One of the photos shows one of our students gathering seed data, and other students submitting data on the computer.
It is so nice that when students have a burning question that they want to research the computer is right here in the classroom for them. They used to have to try to get a computer from the computer lab and they were rarely available. It is an amazing experience for the students to get to correspond and work with real scientists through the Internet! You have really helped to open our classroom to the world!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Terrell
