Algebra 1 is hard. Algebra 1 is even more difficult if you have a learning disability and a highly rigorous math curriculum that is newly adopted this year. My students are working really hard in Algebra 1 but they need your help. The document camera for this project will really help my students be able to watch and follow along with the classwork and improve their understanding of tough Algebra 1 concepts. Our district adopted Eureka Math for K - 9 this year. That means that we don't have a text book but students have a student workbook that we work out of. Having a document camera with the actual pages up on the projector will allow me to work along with them and allow them to see that step by step. It will also allow me to choose students whose work is completed or students who might have a common error to be called on and bring their work up to the doc camera. The class can then view it and the student can explain their steps and discuss as a class. It will help the visual learners to see Algebra 1 in action and will help the other types of learners take correct notes to use for their math notebook. I have also implemented a note card study system this year. Students will create note cards with important vocabulary terms, concepts or the steps to solving problems. The document camera is critical for the students to see what the front and back of the note cards should look like. The students will then use the note cards to study from and quiz each other when we have important quizzes or tests.
