Reading Is the Key to Success!!!
Funded Sep 22, 2010Your kindness and generosity has been hard to wrap our heads around over these past few months! Your donations have enabled my classroom to be transformed into a literacy haven for readers to flourish and succeed. The materials that I was able to purchase have and will continue to be a part of our daily routine. The materials have contributed to our Daily 5 centers (Word Work, Listen to Reading, Read to Someone, Read to Self and Work on Writing).
My students continue to be grateful for the materials we have to use. They discuss you on a weekly basis by name, as I shared this information with them. Not only will these children be affected by the materials, but my classes for years to come will be also.
It is so encouraging to know that there are people in this world who truly care about children and their education. Too often we lose focus on what is truly important in this life. You have given us great joy and we appreciate you, always. Without these materials, my students may not be the avid and fluent readers they are today, Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

This classroom project was brought to life by FreeCreditReport.com and 2 other donors.Capture the Joy of Reading
Funded Dec 23, 2009Words cannot truly express the love and gratitude my students and I feel in our hearts for your thoughtful donations. When I revealed the "big surprise" to them they could barely contain themselves! They could not fathom the idea that people across the country donated to OUR classroom! They asked me, "Mrs. K, what made us so special?" I tell them on a daily basis how special they are but I think this really made them believe!
This event has affected each and every one of my students in very positive ways. With your donations we were able to order 80 books for our classroom. This included fiction and nonfiction titles. These particular books were chosen specifically to match the interests of my students. Now they can actually go to the classroom library and choose books to read independently! Students excitedly want to volunteer and read these books aloud to their classmates for the simple reason of enjoyment. I have been waiting a very long time to see their eyes wide with excitement and happiness as they each sit around the room in their own spot sharing literature with a friend or enjoying it alone and sharing their thoughts and feelings about it later.
Since our new materials have arrived it seems as though students have been able to make many more personal connections with the texts, as the texts are geared towards their reading level as well as their interest. I am noticing the group having many more thoughtful conversations about literature and it is just fascinating to listen to them during their "gab sessions". Students have also created their own "sign out station" in which students are able to sign out books to take home and read to family members. The catch here is that students must have a family member respond to the child's reading in any way, shape, or form. This has increased parent involvement in our classroom and has begun to strengthen our home-school connection.
As students continue to read their new books I have noticed improvements in the way they attack unfamiliar words as well as encourage one another to sound out words they may not know. The commodore in our classroom has improved tremendously. It is amazing to see them encouraging and praising one another for their individual accomplishments.
Without your incredibly thoughtful donations, none of this would have been possible. From the bottom of our hearts we truly thank you! : )
