  • Keep Us Moving As We Move Back Into The Classroom!

    Funded Apr 1, 2021

THANK YOU THANK YOU for funding my project! My students are going to feel so excited to have this fun and flexible seating in our classroom! Transitioning back to the classroom after being home for so long is going to be difficult. These gifts will go a long way in making our space more comfortable and developmentally appropriate. Thank you for supporting your local schools and teachers!”

    With gratitude,

  • Help Us Keep Our Technology Safe

    Funded Apr 4, 2019

These technology component have been so crucial in our classroom! They have really helped these 21st century students utilize our iPads to their greatest potential!

The cases are keeping them safe as we walk around the room scanning QR codes to answer math problems! We use them during math rotations to access math programs or draw to show and save our problem saving skills. During literacy we can access reading programs and record ourselves reading to practice our fluency and retell skills.

Previously we had bulky oversized cases (and some without cases!) that made it impossible to hit the right buttons because they were for the wrong model. Our headphones couldn't fit in them so they were always loud. Now we are able to handle the iPads correctly and use them all the time.

Speaking of headphones...WOW it's been so nice to have properly fitting headphones for my friends. They are no longer complaining about the headphones being too small or too tight or too loose! They fit perfectly so the kids can really utilize them which makes our classroom much calmer since 11 different iPads are not dinging and speaking.

Thank you so much for your donation. We are so thrilled to use these materials EVERYDAY. They have had an amazing impact on our classroom environment.”

  • We Love to Read, Read, Read!

    Funded Mar 30, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donations! Your gift allows my students to explore reading in so many different ways. After receiving the items towards the end of last year my students from the 16-17 school year were able to read and enjoy the materials. Now, a new set of learners are loving them this year! Your donation has already had a great impact on two classes.

The headphones have allowed students to listen to books on the computer. This is great practice for my struggling readers in particular. Now, they can preview a book before they are asked to read it on their own. It allows them to build confidence and feel successful in reading independently.

Some of the books I read aloud to the whole class. Books like "What Do You Do With a Problem" help introduce big topics like conflict resolution in a fun, meaningful way for students. After reading this book in particular we discussed how the character dealt with his problem and what would happen if he didn't. It led to a fantastic conversation and helped us create classroom norms for dealing with problems.

Soon, my new class will be breaking into small groups to read books on their level. The guided reading books are going to help these learners feel confident as they tackle tricky words and find that they CAN read books.

Thank you for making it possible for my students to engage in reading activities that nurture the love of learning that all teachers hope to instill.”

  • Hands-On Learning Manipulatives for Growing Minds

    Funded Feb 7, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donations! The students were so excited to see the new materials. Our classroom has now become an environment full of hands-on learning opportunities. Throughout the day we are able to use the materials in every subject and in different ways.

I created a new literacy center for students using the magnetic letters where they can practice spelling their sight words. Our math centers have been completely revamped! The storage boxes and bright paper make the centers more organized and exciting. Just last week we used play dough and our new geometric shapes to stamp 3D shape faces and discover each shapes attributes in an authentic way. The pocket sleeves have made it possible to reuse paper over and over again and for students to complete activities day after day until they have mastered a skill. Give a kid an expo marker and it's no longer a boring worksheet, it's a new and engaging game! The new materials have added such a high interest level to all of our centers. Students are excited to play new games and use the new materials. I have been able to create so many new learning games with the variety of materials we received so the novelty never wears off! This week we will be using dominoes, cubes, and counting bears to measure our friends and practice nonstandard measurement! Using these new materials is much more fun than measuring with paper clips.

It's so rewarding to see my students with smiles on their faces while they play and to know that they are learning and deepening their foundational skills at the same time. I'm excited to continue to use the materials in new ways.

Thank you for providing our class with these experiences!”

  • Fill Our Library With Diverse Book Characters!

    Funded Oct 14, 2016

Thank you so much for your contribution to our classroom! The student' eyes lit up when I opened up the box of books and told them they were for our classroom!

The books have had a great positive impact on our class. It was heart warming to see students self select books with characters that looked just like them or had families just like theirs. Most of the characters in the books overcome some struggles and are brave and strong. I hope my students will be inspired by them and connect to them and realize they can be whoever they want to be when they grow up. Students also gain so much from the characters that don't look like them as well, opening their eyes to struggles others face or ways of life that are a different from their own.

The students are able to read these books during our reading block and always beam with excitement when it's their turn to choose their book. I also use many of the books for read alouds and direct instruction of reading strategies. We learned about homes around the world and students searched through books with characters from other countries to find out what their homes looked like. Today we read from Barak Obama's book "Of Thee I Sing" to learn about Martin Luther King Jr. In the weeks to come we will start learning about Black History Month and the African American heroes we celebrate. It is so wonderful to have books about Barack Obama, Harriet Tubman and Melba Doretta Liston (to name a few) to create lessons around.

The books you donated have brought joy and learning to our classroom and my students and I thank you very much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Weight

As a new teacher in my school district, my classroom is far from complete. My class is full of diverse students, but unfortunately my classroom library doesn't match their diversity! We don't have books that represent students of color, LGBTQ families, bilingual students or students with disabilities. First graders are learning to read for the first time and I want my students to fall in love with reading. In order to nurture this enthusiasm they need to have books with characters they can relate to. Children should be able to see themselves reflected in the books they read and should be able to see characters that look like them. Books with characters of different backgrounds help to normalize the lives of students from notoriously marginalized backgrounds and this, in turn, provides them with a source of pride and prevents readers from feeling forgotten or invisible.
