Flexible seating creates a classroom where student's are in control of their learning and their environment. Students will be responsible for their behavior while working in flexible seating areas. The classroom becomes "ours" and creates student's commitment to learning. When using flexible seating in the classroom students are given a choice where to complete work in a way most comfortable to them. Students will be given the opportunity to explore a variety of different seating options making independent choices based on their own needs. Some options provided would be lap trays providing students the opportunity to sit and work on the floor. Additional seating options would be stools, wobble cushions, or balance balls. These options provide students the opportunity to work on the floor, or use stool, and balls at tables. These seating options provide the opportunities to move when sitting. The addition of these items will transform the classroom into a 100% percent flexible seating environment.
