  • Building Blocks and Social Skills

    Funded Aug 13, 2023

Thank you for your generous donation to my first-grade classroom. To say my students were ecstatic to receive our new classroom toys is an understatement. Boys and girls alike have enjoyed the castle, treehouse, building blocks, and dolls, to name a few of our new toys.

Before receiving your gracious donation, my students did not have learning toys to enjoy. This was hindering their social skills. It took a few weeks for them to learn to play with others and use their voices to settle disagreements. Now, they are able to problem-solve and use their imaginations. They have also discovered newfound commonalities among their peers. These toys have helped my students find their voices to work through conflicts, extend their imaginations, and develop stronger relationships.

Thank you again for helping my students build life skills through play.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brandenburg

  • Charged and Ready for the Next Generation!

    Funded Feb 4, 2022

Technology has become an integral part of student education. My students each have an Ipad to access their learning curriculum. This one-to-one technology allows students to have their lessons tailored to their individual academic needs. The students access their Language Arts and Math curriculum daily on their Ipads. Our Ipads also provide students with additional educational apps to help expand their current skills and build additional they may be lacking. Providing students with technology in the classroom is decreasing the gaps between students who have access to technology at home versus students who only have access at school.

My students were ecstatic to choose a pair of colorful headphones to use with their Ipads. They loved the colors, cushioned earpieces, clear sound, and how comfortable they were. They also love the new charging stations. They were surprised at how fast the new chargers work and that we finally could charge each Ipad without taking turns. Prior to the new charging station, each student would check their power percentage, so we could determine which Ipads needed to be charged immediately and which tablets would need to wait. They were all very excited about this because now all their tablets are ready for each day without some students needing to wait their turn or miss their lesson for the day.

There were five specific students who could not believe I had a pair of new headphones for them. They were in awe that they each were getting a new pair and especially loved choosing a color. A few students expressed how their families did not have the money to buy any. A couple of students wanted to know why I was giving the headphones to them and if they were going to be allowed to keep them. Another student asked if I went to Walmart and bought them just for her. This melted my heart.

Thank you Donors Choose for making my students feel special and providing them with charging stations and headphones so they can access their daily online curriculum and more.”

  • Math and iPads a Perfect Combination!

    Funded May 13, 2019

Thank you for your generosity in helping me provide my students with technology within our classroom. Many of my students do not have the opportunity to have technology in their homes, so being able to provide them access to a whole new world is priceless.

My students and I have enjoyed exploring and learning our Math Curriculum through our new IPAD. Many were excited that our Math could be interactive and without paper and pencil. Introducing them to learning in a variety of ways has helped me reach and teach all of my students on their academic level.

Some of my students were having difficulty following along while writing in their workbooks, but with the IPAD they seem to pick it up faster and are more able to stay focused while learning.”

  • Let's Get Organized!

    Funded Nov 13, 2018

Thank You for helping me purchase the new storage cabinet and bins for my classroom. This cabinet has made my students' learning materials not only organized but also easily accessible. My students were so excited when they saw the cabinet all set up. They were as anxious and excited as I was to put all their materials into their individual bins. So, together we got all our materials organized and ready for our return from Christmas Break.

This cabinet will increase our learning time by allowing each student to have their own bin and all their learning materials in one convenient location. It has also encouraged them to be organized and has given them another sense of belonging within our classroom, which enforces that fact that this is our classroom, not just mine.”

  • Art, Where Art Thou?

    Funded May 30, 2016

My Students and I have thoroughly enjoyed having a beautiful cabinet to organize, store and protect our arts and craft materials. My students were in shock with all the materials we received with our cabinet. They couldn't wait to get started creating things. Thanks to these items, we have enjoyed making several projects. We have painted our hands for Grandparents Day, made apple trees, made candy corn people and painted fish, but our favorite projects so far have been our paintings. I love listening to their conversations as they discuss what they are creating. For our next project, we will be creating bats using felt and googly eyes to go with our book Stellaluna. Thank you again for providing my students with Art. They love it and so do I!”

  • You've Got Mail!

    Funded Oct 6, 2015

Thank you so much for donating to our classroom. My students and I are thoroughly enjoying our new classroom mailbox. It has really helped us stay more organized, as well as, increased our learning time. Before the new mailboxes, we were always tripping over our boxes (plastic containers, which contain all of our daily learning essentials), loosing our crayon pouch and important papers. Now, we each have our own mailbox, our items are safe, secure and so is our room. This organization, has helped us keep our stuff organized, which has increased our learning time. Before it would take at least 15 minutes for everyone to get ready for class, now we are ready in about 5 minutes. While working without our new mailbox, many students would pilfer through their boxes, instead of working or learning. Now, their attention is primarily on their lesson.

When my students first saw our new mailboxes, their faces all lite up. They were so excited to put their boxes in their new mailboxes. They have really enjoyed not having to step over all their boxes. It has also, been very good for them and helped them to stay organized.

Thank you again for helping our class get these new mailboxes. They are a welcomed and very appreciated addition to our First grade classroom.”

  • "KAPOW" Us into Toon Comics

    Funded Apr 10, 2015

Thank you very much for providing my students with the Toon Comic Books. They absolute love them! They have enjoyed sharing and reading all the different comic books together. Their enthusiasm for reading has skyrocketed and my students can't wait to complete their work, so they can begin reading a new Toon Comic book. These have inspired my students to not only read, but also begin writing their own comic books.

The addition of Toon Comics to our classroom library has truly been a blessing and had a larger impact on my students than I could have imagined. I look forward to sharing these with all my students for years to come.”

  • Technology to the Rescue

    Funded Oct 13, 2014

Thank you for the new Mini IPad for our classroom. My students are learning very quickly how to operate it. They are enjoying learning with all new games, books and videos. The IPad has also made taking Accelerated Reader tests and our STAR tests less stressful.

So far my students prefer using the new mini IPad at their desks and on the floor with a pillow pet. They love working on it. Their favorites are all the new learning games and the interactive books. It has been great teaching tool, especially since my students don't realize they are learning and not just playing.

The IPad has been a great way for me to work with my students individually on specific skills in all areas of study. There are so many games, videos and books available for me to help every child reach their potential, as well as, keep them intrigued. The Mini IPad has helped many of my students love learning without becoming frustrated.”

  • Where's Elmo?

    Funded Oct 6, 2014

I can't thank you enough for our Elmo Projector. My students and I have been having a lot of fun learning to use it. The first time I turned it on, my students were amazed to see their worksheets projected on the Smartboard. They love being able to see what we are working on from their desks and during our group time on the carpet.

The Elmo Projector has not only brought our worksheets to life, but also made them a hands on activity. With the Elmo, my students are interacting and participating more. They enjoy deciding which way to work our worksheets together. Sometimes they choose writing the answers with a marker. Other times they like to use the built in pencil or the Smartboard markers.

The Elmo has been a wonderful addition to our classroom. It has helped my students and I not dread worksheets. It has also helped my students become more independent and more confident in their learning abilities.”

  • Electronics United

    Funded Sep 30, 2014

My students were so excited to receive our new laptop, Leapster, headphones and batteries. When I told them Sonic purchased them, I wish I would have had my camera ready because their jaws about hit the floor.

My students have enjoyed working on our new Leapster and learning how to work on the laptop. They love the laptops versatility. So far, they have worked on it at their seat and at my table. They have enjoyed taking Accelerated Reader tests, accessing our schools online library, working on ABC Mouse, Starfall and Study Island.

This new technology has been a blessing to our classroom. I can't thank you enough Sonic for providing my students with a new joy for learning.”
