My students need some good quality pencil sharpeners, colored pencils, and highlighters to help make our learning active and interesting. We use highlighters every day to help highlight the important text and to help make it "pop" out to the students. We also use Interactive Notebooks on a daily basis which they use colored pencils to help them learn all the concepts we are teaching. These are especially helpful when reviewing concepts. With the help of these items being provided for my classroom, my students will have the fullest ability to learn in my room using different strategies. The sharpeners that we currently have are low quality. Students get up several times to sharpen their pencils and the majority of the time neither sharpener works. This creates a constant distraction in the classroom. Each sharpener will be place in a different location within the room to accommodate each side with less distraction. Students also need help with colored pencils. These will help add to their illustrations that we create to help remember all of the concepts needed to pass the SOL's. The colored pencils will be divided into 6 areas so each student will be easily accessible to all colors with the least amount of distraction. The highlighters are important for our learners as well. Since there is so much text in our books, I like for them to know the most important information that they need. Therefore, I use highlighters to help them quickly find the most important part of our text. Since most of our students can't afford all of the supplies needed, I would like to provide each one with their own personal highlighter.
