Basics For Our Classrooms
Funded Aug 24, 2013Thank you for your generous donation to our classroom. My kids just couldn't believe it when the items were delivered to our classroom. They especially love the color pencils. It was so funny to see them inspect those so closely and then try to sharpen them. They think it is cool that you don't need to sharpen them and that every single part of the pencil can be used. They used them right away to make a the thank-you poster that is shown on the pictures. They also like using the electric sharpener every morning. They are in charge of making sure all the pencils we will need during the day are sharpened every morning. It makes their job easier. My colleagues also appreciate the donation. I shared with all the teachers in the building and it has made their lives a little easier not to have to go out and buy these supplies. It has allowed me to spend the money on mid-morning snacks for my students instead of paper supplies.
Again, Thank You!”

We Love to Read!
Funded Dec 10, 2011I would like to thank you on behalf of all my students. As you can see by the pictures I've attached to this project, my students were very excited to receive the books that were purchased with your donations. They just couldn't believe that somebody donated money to purchase books for them. My students all wanted to be the first ones to read the books. They swap them amongst themselves so that everyone has a chance to read them. They are also very careful not to damage them. Keeping them undamaged is important to them because these were a 'present'.
Thank you again for the fabulous gift of reading you have given my students!”

Gardening in School
Funded Jan 7, 2011Thank you for the donations that have provided gardening supplies and tools for our students. They have become a great resource this spring to teach science and environmental concepts.
We have been using the enclosed ecosystems to learn about the water cycle and the plant life cycle. The best thing about it is that we have used the students' natural curiosity. The ecosystems were placed in the classrooms, the students gravitated towards them and started asking questions. This allowed us to use their questions as teaching points. They have been taking care of and watching the plants grow inside.
We have extended the students' excitement to start working on the garden outside. They start the seeds inside and move them out to the garden once the plants are ready. They also water the garden with recaptured A.C. and rain water from a rain barrel we have. This has allowed us to teach about water conservation.
In addition, students use the garden to make scientific observations and as an outside classroom.
Again, thank you for your donations.”

History Through Literature
Funded Sep 24, 2010Thank you for your donations to my project. The students enjoy using the these books to do research and to read together. Due to your generosity, all the students in our grade have new resources to use during reading and social studies time.
The reference books are being used for research and for independent reading time. The colorful pictures and interesting facts get the students engaged and they keep coming back to these books.
The journal type books help our students view our state's history through the eyes of a child about their age. I can't tell you how valuable this is for them. They put themselves in the child's shoes and history becomes real to them. No longer just boring facts you read about.
It is amazing to see how good books inspire and motivate our students to read!”

English Literacy Using Dictionaries
Funded Feb 25, 2010Thank you again for your generous donations to help my classroom acquire these dictionaries. My students love to use them every day. The color pictures and illustrations help my second language learners to find what they need quickly. Thanks to your donation, my kids have made dictionary use an important part of their daily instruction. They realize how important vocabulary and spelling are, not just for their writing assignments, but for reading and every other subject area.”
