School Organization
Funded Aug 26, 2021These donations have helped my students learn how to organize themselves. The binders allow me to teach them that every piece of paper has a specific place. This way, they can find what they need quickly. This also allows me to hold them accountable for their organization.
When students come to middle school, they're not used to working with many different teachers, books, and resources. It can be overwhelming to keep track of everything. Now, I have been able to help them and make life easier.
Thank you for your generosity!”

Ms. Krier

Funded Sep 17, 2020First of all, I'd like to apologize for my late thank you impact letter. It's been quite a school year already!
The use of Nearpod for my hybrid teaching has impacted all aspects of our hybrid classroom, academic and social-emotional. Academically, I've been able to use Nearpod to create engaging lessons for both my English and Spanish language arts lessons. The platform draws students in and they want to participate. It has also helped with the social-emotional aspect of this difficult school year. I am using Nearpod SEL lessons to help my students learn how to meditate, how to organize themselves, how to handle stress, and how to speak up when they need help. I have also created a relaxation room and a Nearpod VR Explorations rooms in my virtual classroom library. The students use these rooms when they need a break during the day or anytime in the evenings and weekends.
This grant for Nearpod has completely changed my virtual classroom environment in a very positive way!”

Listening, Speaking, and Learning English
Funded Feb 27, 2020I was so excited when my project got fully funded! I didn't tell my students right away. I waited until the headphones arrived and surprised them. I placed the boxes on their desks and had them open them. The smiles on their faces said it all. In my classroom, students each have a laptop assigned to them We use them extensively. The problem was that students were not issued headphones. Trying to watch a video or learn and practice English while others are also running audio in the classroom was a nightmare. These headphones are a lifesaver for my students!”

The Basics, Please!
Funded Jun 12, 2019Thank you for your generous donation to our project for middle school classroom supplies.
Because of your generosity, our students and teachers were able to start off the year with the necessary supplies. For the teachers, it is a relief to come back to school and find these supplies already waiting for them in their classrooms. For the students and their parents, not having to buy some of these school supplies is a weight off their shoulders.
The large binders are especially appreciated since they are so expensive to purchase. The pencils are also very much appreciated since they are used up so quickly.”

STEM in the Garden
Funded Dec 31, 2017My school has been extensively using the materials you helped to purchase through this grant. Both teachers and students have been engaged in growing our garden program using the books and materials we received.
The first things we grew in our raised beds and hydroponic system were edibles. We have grown tomatoes, cabbages, strawberries and lettuce. The students have tasted all these and then we donated the rest of the fruits and vegetables to a food pantry. The books that we received through this grant are helping us integrate the curriculum into our garden activities. We have the students measuring and counting plants, raised beds, the fruit and vegetables. Our students are also involved in planning future gardens and deciding what seeds we will start in the classrooms. The pots that were purchased with your donations are great for this activity. The students plant the seeds and watch them grow inside the classroom. Then when it is time to transplant, it is easy for them to pull the seedlings out and transplant them in the raised beds.
The next step in our green school journey will be to establish a butterfly garden. We have already started the seeds in several classrooms. The book, "Books in Bloom" will serve as the inspiration for the activities in this part of the garden. It will be a quieter space for reading and for book extension activities.
We are all so excited about our gardens and our green school journey! We want you to know how much we appreciate your support.”

Funded Jan 1, 2017These magazines have been such a gift for my students. We are reading them to learn more about nonfiction reading. We are looking at text structure, text features, main ideas, and summarizing while reading about current news. My students really enjoy the articles about kids their age that are contained in these magazines. The fact that they are color copies and not black and white printed copies makes it easier for my second language learners. The visual always helps them.
Again, thank you for the gift you've helped give my students.”

Writer's Tools
Funded Mar 29, 2016My students were so excited when we received the supplies from this grant! They are really smart, curious, and creative. They are preteens and like to bring the things they enjoy doing into the classroom. One thing they like to do is play video games, and Minecraft is one of their favorites. These pictures show the Minecraft comics they came up with. They decided to do this themselves and it was wonderful to see their organization and teamwork evolve from this project. It was like seeing a well-working office project team. They also created a Minecraft code book as a how-to guide for new players. Without the needed resources, things like this can't happen in our classrooms. My students are learning skills they will need throughout their school careers, but also as adults in the modern workplace.”

The Bare Necessities
Funded Dec 23, 2015My students and I were so excited when we received these resources. You can see my students in the pictures being goofy with the chart tablet easel. They even made this comment, "Hey Mrs, Krier, the paper isn't going to fall anymore!" This referring to the fact that I had to use magnets to hang the chart tablet on the dry-erase board and teach from there. Many times instruction had to pause when the tablet fell on the floor while I was trying to write on it. Our whole-group lessons go so much smoother now. Again, thank you for making a positive difference in our classroom!”

Kids Gardening With Help From Disney
Funded Mar 24, 2014Thank you for your generous donations to my project. My students are so excited when we get to go outside and work on the garden.
We first took the seeds and started them in the classroom in cups. My students and I talked about plant needs and why we were starting them inside first. While the seeds germinated and grew, we went out to the garden, measured the area and my students created a plan for the area. They included all the existing shrubs, where the new garden beds, the plaque and birdbath will go. They also included areas for future growth, like where benches will go.
The pictures I attached are what our area currently looks like. My students have worked really hard on this project and it all started with the materials we received thanks to you.”

Funded Aug 24, 2013Thank you again for your generous donation and for supporting my students. They were excited when the items came in and immediately asked for everything to be set-up so that we could start using it.
The rug is perfect for our reading area. My students sit on the rug when we are learning as a whole group. They also enjoy laying on the rug and pillows to do their independent reading. The colors make the room bright and it is really comfortable.
The mailboxes are really helpful in our classroom. Now this is a classroom job my students are responsible for. The messenger sorts the mail each day into the mailboxes and they are responsible for checking their boxes at the end of the day. This is teaching my students some real-life skills.”

Ms. Krier
