Reading is More Fun with Friends
Funded Jun 14, 2021My students are loving the new book sets that we received from this project. They look forward to Reader's Workshop each day.
After the past year and a half, my students are loving the opportunities to read with their friends again. They are able to share their thinking, reactions and questions with others that are reading the same books.
These books have been used with students that are reading at benchmark that do not need guided reading anymore. I'm so thankful for these books and my students are too!”

Funded Mar 16, 2021The books that were purchased with this order have been included within our daily read aloud times. We have been able to integrate them into the time we read together daily. It is a wonderful chance for students to be able to identify with the characters within these books.
Students are able to make text-to-text, text-to-world, and text-to-self connections. These text-to-self connections are of most importance because they are able to created connections/relationships with the characters like them.
These books have also opened our eyes to students that are not like us. It is fun to find characters that look like all of the friends in our class.
This project has been so beneficial in so many ways!”

Funded Apr 7, 2020Thank you so much for your donation! I was able to complete the project, "Seeing Ourselves in Books." My students are very excited to have books within our library that have characters that represented their cultures. My students are able to read and listen to stories that have characters that do things and look just like them! They are able to identify with the characters that were purchased because of this project.
For now, I will be completing read alouds for my students are we are learning distantly. I cannot wait until my students are able to independently choose these books. I can already tell what a positive effect this project has had on my class of readers.”

My students will now be able to be successful in our classroom as well as when they are learning remotely. They will have personal math folders in the classroom as well as home. They will also now be able to bring their own individual manipulatives to learn at home too!
Thank you for your generosity!”

Funded Feb 3, 2020Before we had to transition to Distance Learning, my students looked forward to Friday afternoons. They loved Choice Time after receiving these materials for our classroom.
When we unboxed the packages, my students were screaming with excitement. They couldn't wait for their first Choice Time with all of these new materials.
Students were able to share their creativity with their peers as they built towers with magnetic blocks. They build houses and cars using the Legos. They made many different and colorful pizzas and people using the new Playdough and Playdough tools.
I think it is safe to say that this project was a class favorite!”

Reading about the World Around Us
Funded Mar 1, 2019Thank you again for your donations, these books have been loved within our classroom walls. My students are so excited to learn about the different holiday and seasons through read-aloud. They have even mentioned how they have enjoyed seeing the same books throughout the different holidays. For example, we have enjoyed How to Catch a Leprechaun and How to Catch the Easter Bunny. I know in the future my students will enjoy the other holidays in the How to Catch book series.
My students have had multiple opportunities to create text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world connections. They have practiced making predictions and have even learned what an inference was because of these books.
I look forward to using these books to lift the level of thinking and learn all about new holidays with my future students as well.”

Funded Sep 11, 2018Thank you for your donations to our classroom! These resources are being used throughout the day. We are able to use those pillows when independently reading. Students also like to use the pillows as a cushion when they are using a clipboard around the room. The milk crates are used as alternative seating in our room. Some students may find it more comfortable to sit on a milk crate instead of sitting in a traditional classroom chair. The textured cushions are also a huge hit each day!
My students were very excited to see all of the different seating options that were available to them. On a daily basis, my students ask if they can use their flexible seating during all subjects of the day. This project has had an enormous impact on my classroom and my students' learning.”

Ignite the Magic of Reading
Funded Aug 14, 2018The books that were funded and donated have truly impacted my teaching. I am able to incorporate these books through read-alouds which are times that I read to my students. I do the heavy work of decoding vocabulary and they do all the thinking work. They might put themselves in the shoes of their characters, make predictions, and/or make connections to other books or themselves.
The books that have been provided by my school are very outdated and these books have allowed my students to experience new types of literature. They are so excited whenever they see a new book off of the Read Aloud shelf. I have been able to see my students grow a love for learning through these experiences. This shared reading has also allowed my lower readers to experience texts that they are not ready for independently. It is great to see them think and act more confidently about books.
Thank you! These are truly favored and appreciated in my room.”

Growing a Love for Reading
Funded Aug 10, 2018Thank you so much for your donations. My students are loving each minute they get to be exposed to these new books. We have been completing a lot of read alouds and shared reading experiences through the use of these new books. My students are cherishing each moment they get. They know how special they are and how someone else thought reading was important.
These books have also given my students the chance to read with other students in the class. We now have doubles of some books and my students can buddy read with someone. This allows them more practice and chances to use different strategies when coming across tricky words.”

Reading to New Adventures
Funded May 15, 2018Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. We were so excited to open the boxes and get right to reading. My students know how lucky they are to have a classroom library overflowing with new, exciting, and engaging books.
As a second grader, students are learning how to read with fluency and begin reading with high levels of reading comprehension. The books that were purchased with this project were specific to the reading levels in my classroom. My students now have ample books to choose from at their particular reading level. Reading at their specific levels increases the likelihood of moving up reading levels and successfully reading with comprehension and fluency.
My students count down the minutes until it is time to pull out their reading books. Almost all students rush to our newly stocked library bins from this project. These books have allowed my students to develop a love for learning which is one of my main goal as a teacher.”

Mrs. Ferrara
