Be Fit and Have Fun!
Funded Jun 10, 2023Thank you so much for contributing to my project! The items have arrived and I look forward to utilizing them with my students. Working with special needs students is very rewarding as they love trying new things. Coming from low-income families, many do not get a chance to explore and learn new things.
For my lower functioning students, teaching them about personal space as well as various movements is key. The balance pods that I received will help students work on balance and movements. The hoop holders will allow students to understand the importance of body awareness and personal space.
The higher functioning students will have a chance to use the hoppity hop balls that are a great way to work on coordination, timing and balance. It also gets their heart rate up as they hop around the gym non-stop. Lastly, the floor hockey kit will teach my students about working as a team, hand-eye coordination, and moving safely on scooters around the gym.
Your contribution to this project will make my students very happy. It will expose them to new opportunities that they may not normally have. I look forward to seeing their reaction when we begin the different units this year. Thank you so much again for your support!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Polonska

Funded Jan 29, 2019Thank you so much for your support! It takes special people like yourselves to take the time and help fund a good cause. We have received the equipment and now are able to enhance our Movement / Physical Education class.
Over the next four months, I will be able to expose my students to new activities and help to enhance their motor skills. Visuals are extremely important so having this colorful equipment will allow the children to focus on the activity on hand. My students love to explore new things and were excited when they saw all of the equipment that has come in.
One challenge my students have is taking turns. The cones, beanbags as well as scooters will come in handy. The plan is to incorporate relay activities that work on waiting your turn, matching colors, and using the scooters to explore what your body can do.
The parachute is a great tool that allows students to work cooperatively, which is a skill we will continue to work on next month. We have worked on overhead throwing as well as underhand tossing. Having this new equipment will enhance the students accuracy because now they have specific targets to aim for. For the lower functioning students, the tunnel as well as balance beam will allow me to work on body awareness and various movements around the room.
Part of this equipment will travel between two buildings and will get utilized with the HS students as well. Especially the gator balls, scooters and goals. We have been working on basic sports skills and fitness. They enjoy team games and now we can revisit all of the activities with modified game rules.
On behalf of the children as well as myself and PS 36@ PS213, I truly thank you for all that you have done. I am excited to share all this new equipment with my students and see them excel!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Polonska
