Taking Our Library to the Classes
Funded Dec 16, 2022If you could only see the difference your donation has made to this school community.
The mini travelling classroom libraries are up and running (or should I say rolling)! Not only are books now available in the classroom, on occasion, we park one of the carts in the hallway for access during lunch.
Words cannot express how the book carts and scanners you donated have impacted the independent reading culture of our school. Just the fact that the students can read and check out books (in Spanish as well as English) while we await our new library is fantastic. Already, we are seeing a difference in the students' connection to reading. Recently a teacher brought a student to me to request the sequel to a book he had just finished reading. That would not have been possible this year without your help. Thank you so much.”

Building Reading and Language Skills Vicariously Through Recreational Reading
Funded Dec 9, 2022If you could only see the difference your books have made to this school community.
Already, we are seeing a difference in their connection to reading. Just the fact that there are books in Spanish as well as English...that there are bilingual books... this encourages reading for both vocabulary and comprehension. Discussing the books in English helps build their English-speaking skills. Writing brief summaries in English helps build their English writing skills.
Words cannot express how the books you donated have impacted the independent reading culture of my school. Our English language learning students are so excited about having books in their native language. In one classroom, the students crafted a reading corner with a bookshelf for your donated books.
Our goal is to rotate the books loaned to our EL and inclusion (mixed ELL and non ELL students) classrooms every month to six weeks. That way each class of students has opportunity to read/scan the full breadth of your contribution by June.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Gardner
