  • Creating Colorful Minds Through the Adventures of Reading

    Funded Oct 7, 2016

Thank you so much for helping to get some new and exciting books into my students' hands. They were so excited when I told them about our project and ecstatic when our books arrived. I put a few of our books out on each table and had my students complete a gallery walk to see the new titles we received. They got to spend a few minutes at each table looking at the books and reading the summaries. This definitely helped spark their interest in reading something new.

I'm fortunate that my students love independent reading time. Students are allowed to get "cozy-comfy" and find their own spot around the room to read. I provide students with different seating options (pillows, cushions, stools, seat shells, lap trays, etc.) and allow them to find their best possible spot. Once they're comfortable, students spend about 15-20 minutes independently reading books of their choice. On Fridays, we have "Flashlight Friday" where we turn the lights off, students get a mini flashlight and cuddle up with their book to read. They love it and it's so rewarding watching them get lost in a book.

Thank you so much for helping me bring new genres into my classroom and for making it possible to help make my classroom library more diverse. We are forever grateful for all of your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Davis's 4th Grade Classroom

I am so overwhelmed by your generosity. I cannot thank you enough for your support. My kids were beyond excited when I told them the awesome news. They cannot wait for their new books to get here, so they can start reading them. Thank you again for making this possible for my students.”

My students' passion for reading is inspiring at such a young age. By putting more books on the shelves in our classroom library, I will be able to continue fostering their love for reading. "You can find magic wherever you look, sit back and relax, all you need is a book." -Dr Seuss When my students read more, their minds become more imaginative, their writing becomes more creative and their vocabulary becomes more dazzling. I hope that with some of the read-alouds, I can encourage students to become comfortable reading aloud in front of their peers. This will also help them develop their public speaking skills.
