  • The Body Shop

    Funded May 5, 2011

Thank you so much for supporting our school by donating the funds to buy the 3D Base Unit that allowed us to begin the virtual dissection programs in our Science department. I teach high school in a small rural community and many of my students live at the poverty level. But I know that these kids have ambition and ability and your contributions will help them see the possibilities.

I have been able to get supporting software to use with the Virtual Dissection Base Unit and my students are learning to use the programs and it has been wonderfully successful. It has truly opened their eyes to the wonders of the human body and they are actually getting to see frog dissections in greater depth than the hands on version because the "frogs" can be reused.

Again, your generosity is making a difference in my school!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

  • What Did I Do With My Glasses??

    Funded May 5, 2011

Thank you for your generosity! I teach Anatomy and Forensics and the Human Anatomy Virtual Dissection disk have made it possible for my students to get an in-depth look at the human body. This is something they would not have had access to until they started nursing or medical school.

We have already had former students come back to speak to our students and they have been so impressed with the technology now available to our school. I have also already had students asking about careers in technology, health care, and forensics. It just doesn't get any better than that. I am overwhelmed by what you've done for my kids.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

  • I Can Virtually Cut His Heart Out!

    Funded May 5, 2011

My students and I want you know how much we appreciate your support - my students had no conception of how a virtual dissection would work until you "opened" their eyes through the Wired 3D Glasses.  I teach Biology, Anatomy, Forensics, Physical Science and Physics.  I teach high school in a small rural community but my students deserve the best that can be obtained for them.

Your gift has impacted my students in two spectacular ways.  The first is that the equipment is top of the line and impressive in it's own right.  My classes are blown away by the entire concept of virtual dissections and it has taken the "gross" out of dissections.  But I feel that the most important thing that they have gained from this is the knowledge that there are people who care about them and want them to do well.  For some of my kids this is the first time that they have been made to feel special about their school experience.  I can not thank you enough for your active caring”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

  • Let's Get Physical!

    Funded May 5, 2011

My Physical Science and Physics students are having a wonderful time learning from the overhead flow table and the teaching tank!  Several teachers use these materials in their classes as well - they are great in Earth Science and Physics as well as Physical Science.  I have also discovered uses for these tools in my Biology classes as well.

I teach High School in a small rural community with limited resources.  Your generosity makes it possible for us to introduce our students to more sophisticated hands-on learning tools.  The entire science department is grateful for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

  • Virtually Real!

    Funded Oct 11, 2011

Thank you so much for your support!!

I teach Biology, Physics, Forensics, and Anatomy. I can't tell you how grateful my school will be for the use of the 3D glasses and the virtual dissection programs. I teach high school in a small rural community that is financially challenged right now. But we have wonderful kids, and I'm blessed to work with a group of people whose heart is in their work. Your support means that we can offer our students opportunities that otherwise they would not have access to. You are helping us grow our future.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

  • Turning Green!

    Funded Dec 29, 2010

My kids are thrilled with the hydroponics kit and the plant cloning experiment! They thought that cloning was just something done in the movies and they had never heard of hydroponics. You could tell that they were suddenly taking the class more seriously - it's as though the new materials are making them feel like real scientists.

Just as important - my fellow teachers are seeing the possibilities as well. This greatly increases the number of students who can participate in these experiments. We are growing more than plants here now. We are also shaping young minds and attitudes. As teachers we can have extravagant well intentioned plans, but without your support our plans are just scratches on paper.

Please be assured that you are making real changes in my school and my community.

    Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

  • Carrots Don't Grow In Supermarkets!

    Funded Jan 24, 2011

Thank you so much for the Earthboxes! Please take a look at the smiles on the faces of my students. They were curious when the boxes were brought into our room, but when they found out that the contents of the boxes were for them they were delighted! As you can tell from the photos taken when they opened the packages and immediately wanted to get the projects started.

These students have no experience with growing things but it is obvious that they are captivated by the thought of growing their own plants. They didn't mind getting their hands dirty! I hoped that this project would inspire them to learn more about gardening, especially sustainable gardening, and I can already tell that this project is going to energize the class for the rest of the semester.

You have done such a beautiful thing for my students. You have opened doors for them that they didn't even realize were closed. The pictures truly say it all. When class ended, I got bombarded by this question - "Can we please do this again tomorrow? Please?"

Their excitement is contagious. I can't wait until tomorrow either! Thank you so much for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

  • Skulduggery!

    Funded Dec 31, 2010

I cannot adequately tell you how much my students have enjoyed studying the skulls that your generosity provided to my classroom. After receiving the skulls, I realized that there were many applications that I had not foreseen. One of which is strictly architectural. Showing students that these large animals had to have cavities within their skulls in order to be able to carry their heads, also explained for them why humans have sinus cavities.

My students are also quite frankly amazed at the way these awesome creatures were made in terms of capturing and butchering their prey. These models may not seem like a lot to some people, but to me and my students they are opening up whole new areas of study. Once you've got a child's interest you can teach them anything. I am so grateful to you for making this a reality. I have wanted to be able to share this with my students for a long time but there just hasn't been any way to add them to my budget.

You are making it possible for the world to open up for my kids. They can see and understand things now that were truthfully little more than fairly tales to them before. Thank you so much for your understanding and for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

  • Investigating Life

    Funded Sep 1, 2010

Thank you so much for supplying these materials to my classroom! My students are excited about watching the butterflies hatch. Despite the fact that we are a rural school, many kids have never seen the life cycle of these beautiful insects.

We are also looking forward to using the magnifying boxes to examine the small invertebrates that we have in our school yard. The reference book on macroinvertebrates will be invaluable in identifying the animals we find. This is an awesome gift and we are so very thankful that you have been so generous. This is a tremendous way to encourage children to love science and fully develop their curiosity.

We are going to send pictures as our butterflies develop and as we use the magnifying boxes!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

  • What's in your Genes?

    Funded May 10, 2010

Thank you so much for your support of our students. Good equipment is essential to stimulate interest and imagination. These young people are tomorrow's inventors and the ability to use quality equipment will give them an advantage when they reach college. TV programs like CSI have greatly increased student's interest in all things "Forensics". This electrophoresis equipment will familiarize students with DNA testing and give them a greater understanding of the possibilities and limitations of DNA technology.

Your generosity will bring my students even closer to their dreams and ambitions. We thank you for your support and for your belief in my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

I teach in a poor, rural community. My students are awesome and extremely intelligent - they deserve the best education that I can give them. To do that I need your help. My school system cannot afford the science materials needed to prepare my kids for college.
