Students are learning to read and understand complex informational text in 6th grade. To do this properly, students require a personal copy of the textbook in the classroom. With a personal copy of the text in the classroom, students can intimately study text features, decompose complex vocabulary, and cite evidence to support their ideas. All of these skills are integral components of the standards. The demands of preparing students for high school, college, and career necessitate access to high academic informational texts such as the Ancient World History book. These books contain primary sources, maps, secondary sources, art, literature, and a wide variety of needed skills practice.
