  • Fun Books Ignite Excitement

    Funded Mar 29, 2024

I just wanted to let you know that my kids are thriving on the new books that we have in our classroom now thanks to your generous donation. They are grabbing them to read in the room between lessons and checking them out to take home. It is truly sparking a joy of reading for many of my students.

By including graphic novels and interest books that will encourage a book to be picked up, my kids are talking about characters and sharing the "best books" to read with their friends. Literacy is so important and with providing resources in my room, kids can easily find one to pick up and read. Thank you so much with providing these wonderful opportunities.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Laymon

  • High-Low Way to Read

    Funded May 5, 2024

Thanks for your generous donations of books for my students. In my classroom, I began the first day promoting reading by doing book talks on these wonderful donated graphic novels.

The kids are loving them. They are checking them out to take home to read. In class, when we are finished with our work, they are picking up a book to read. As I walk around, I hear the kids telling about a part of the story and that sparks interest to others who may have not had the chance to do so without my classroom sections of books. My students would not be able to have these opportunities without your help.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Laymon

  • Graphic Novels Needed To Spark Interest!

    Funded Apr 10, 2024

Thank you by providing exciting books for my students. Before receiving these books, many of my kids would not pick up a book.

The graphic novels are sparking an interest. I have several students who have reread them over and over. That is my goal to have them to fall in love with reading and to become a life-long reader not just an assignment reader to get an assignment completed. Once they love to read, the students will branch out to other wonderful pieces of literature to enjoy and learn new exciting knowledge.”

  • Eclipse Is Coming! Let's Get Ready!

    Funded Jan 5, 2024

Excitement has been building for my students preparing for the upcoming eclipse. The books are engaging and teaching what an eclipse is all about. Without these resources, my kids would not know and understand the buzz in the air.

With the model of the earth, moon, and sun, the students are taking what we are learning from the books and applying this visually. What fun!! We are going to continue reading books and practicing things about our earth and solar system.

The solar eclipse glasses on going home with the students so that they experience the eclipse safely . By the time, they take part in April, the students with the help of these resources will understand and enjoy this chance of a lifetime. Thank you for bringing in materials to inspire learning and preparation for the solar eclipse.”

  • Powerful Reading

    Funded Nov 27, 2023

My students have been so excited about their new supplies. They love using markers and write on and write off boards with manipulatives. The students get to use skills needed to practice and learn reading and math When I laminate a paper for dictation, they will get to tap out the sounds, write the correct corresponding letter, and then erase it. They just love it! It makes learning more fun and engaging.

By creating these interactive lessons, I am not only providing my students with practice but also saving our environment. I am reusing these for other groups and therefore I only need to make one set and not 10.

Thank you for providing these resources for my students to become more engaged. Without ; your generosity, these opportunities could not happen.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Laymon

  • Learn Math and Science By Reading

    Funded Oct 3, 2023

With your generosity, literacy has been supported as well as math content in my classroom. Having resources available for my students allow them to learn science and math while enriching their mind with literacy.

The books such as the "Sir Cumference Series" will mathematical skills to be taught as a story form that will allow connections and relationships to concepts that will give students another way to grasp new ideas. As an educator, I need to find a plethora of opportunities that will engage students and teach math and literacy in ways that my students will learn that will carry over for their life. Thank you for your support in helping kids in my classroom and the community.”

  • Learning to Read

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

When a group of students enter my room, a diverse set of imaginations, skills, and abilities come in with each one. All of these students have strengths and weaknesses. So, when finding resources that will engage my students as well as meet their needs, it benefits not only them but me since it is my goal to teach them life skills.

When I teach the children math and reading context, I will begin as whole group to teach a new skills. Then I pull them into small groups to enrich and monitor their abilities. With these resources purchased, I can help design lessons on level that covers the science of reading. This way I am following recommendations and research.

It is so helpful to have ready supplies for my lessons. This way, more time is spent teaching students then finding additional activities. it is at my fingertips. Thanks you so much for your help.”

  • Researched -Based Literacy Lessons for Young Students

    Funded Mar 22, 2022

Having books that children can decode has been a life-changer for my students. My kids love to read and they are not getting frustrated to the point where they give up. It is so important that our children learn literacy.

Not only does this program have books that are decodable, but manipulative magnetic boards that will allow my students to be actively engaged in their learning process. This way they are using all of their senses and can learn skills by whatever means aids them more.

I truly appreciate your support in literacy. With your generosity, you are a part of creating life-long love of reading in children.”

  • From Hands to Head: Math Manipulatives

    Funded Oct 11, 2021

Children learn by doing and therefore with your generous donation, I was able to buy math manipulatives to aid in their education. When the children were working on place value recently in the classroom, they used the Base Ten Blocks that was purchased from this grant. Having this concept to be concrete and hands-on allowed my students to be actively engaged by manipulating base ten blocks that represented their numbers. The children could actually understand what each digit really represented. This was great and so worth every cent spent. The children are using all products purchased to help them in math. Thank you so much for your kindness.”

Asking a teacher to teach middle school students without the use of hands-on materials is like asking a doctor to listen for a heartbeat without a stethoscopeisn't it? Engaging students with inquiry methods is the only way for important science concepts to be taught. With over 70 percent of my 6th grade student population on free/reduced lunches, the majority of my students cannot provide supplies to help with science experiments. With generous donations, my students may become actively involved in discovering science which is a key focus for my classroom as well as my middle school.
