  • Working Is Cool

    Funded Aug 18, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our "Working is Cool" project! Because of your generosity my students have been able to expand their skills base in our school run coffee shop and are now able to offer iced coffee beverages. We are excited about being able to use the shaved ice machine for our spring pop up shop!

Iced coffee has been a huge seller and is way more popular than we ever imagined. We average around 120 cups a day and because of that we have had to create a new ordering system using our ipads. My students say they feel like they work at a real coffee shop now! It has given them a voice, something to be proud of and new skill sets to broaden their resumes. Thank you so much for your generous donation, it is truly making an impact!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Andrews

  • Job Training on the Go

    Funded Jun 3, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donation of ipads for our classroom! We have been busy creating job tutorials to be used by future students from years to come. The students first select a job or skill and then use the ipads to create their own tutorial that we then upload to our class Youtube channel. Each video is assigned its own unique QR code so that the videos can be accessed quickly and easily. These videos will be used to help prepare future students for specific community jobsites and workplace environments.

It's amazing how quickly students catch on when technology is at their fingertips! Technology has the amazing power to level the playing field and really give all students a voice, regardless of their ability level! My special students have quickly become video editing pros! They really enjoy hands on experiences and letting them have a hand in the entire process has been so rewarding. They have been so engaged and have even begun teaching each other! It is so nice to see students really get excited and take ownership of a school project!

We are working on creating video resumes as our next project!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Andrews

  • Job Skills 101

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Thank you so much for donating towards our project. My students have loved learning how to use the Cricut machine to create things to sell as part of our student based enterprise. One of our most popular items to make for others are personalized masks.

When my students first saw the materials I think they were a little intimidated. We watched several how-to videos before beginning. It wasn't until the students got to work hands-on that they really seemed to get into it. In order to learn how to use the tools and materials I began by allowing them to create things of their own design and choice, it was so fun to see what they came up with!

We are currently in the process of learning to use heat press vinyl to create larger items like shirts and canvas tote bags. I even have a few students planning to create their own Youtube tutorials on how to create items using the Cricut machine! Thank you so much for investing in our project!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Andrews

My class is starting a new business venture! As part of job training, we are starting a student-run coffee shop for students and faculty at the Advantage Academy campus. Students will make and sell coffee in a real-life work experience. They will learn to generalize skills to prepare them for post-graduation success. Our goal is to make our students independent, contributing members of society. This venture is about so much more than selling coffee. It is a chance for our students to socialize with others, take pride in their work and become contributing members of the student body. It is about giving these students a voice, a face, an identity as valued students. Please help us fill our cups!
