In these challenging times, it is now more important than ever to keep students connected and engaged. With more and more students moving to remote learning, teachers need to come up with innovative and creative ways to motivate students and provide unique learning opportunities to learners. Teaching in the New York City Department of Education especially remotely, provides many challenges. Technology in our school continues to be an area of concern. Teaching over 40 students at one time remotely, it's vital to have a device that works effectively and efficiently. In our school, many of our students are using devices that are, in most cases, older than them. Due to budgeting issues, many teachers are using these same outdated devices that are over 10 years old. Being both a blended teacher and a remote teacher, it is crucial to have a device that works well, and is able to support applications that engage students. Apps like Zoom, Google Classroom, Khan Academy, and Microsoft Teams require faster processing computers in order to get the most out of their features. For example, due to the age of my device, I cannot currently see all of my students while teaching on Zoom which makes it challenging to be able to effectively identify when a student may need assistance. By utilizing a device that will support such applications, instruction can be given in a manner that provides the students with the best possible opportunity for success.
