Please Have a Seat...of Your Choice
Funded Feb 6, 2017I cannot begin to describe how much my kids are enjoying the new seating in our classroom. I have students who are even trying harder because they want to be able to use the new seating. Because I was able to purchase a variety of seating for my kids, I am able to give them different options for their seating.
When the huge boxes came my kids were so excited. They knew what we were getting, but were still so excited to see everything. The kids had to help me blow up the balls. It was an arm workout for us. The hardest part for my kids was that they couldn't just take what they wanted. We had to find a way to make it fair for everyone.
My goal is to get a few more wiggle seats for my students to use. I believe it will help my kids sit and focus. Thank you to all of those who donated to my classroom. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!”

Reading, Phonics, and Fun? Yes To All Three Please!
Funded Sep 30, 2016The games and centers that I was able to purchase because of such generous donors have had a positive impact on my students. The centers are providing reinforcement from lessons taught. With the centers, the kids create words based on different language rules. (And we know there are tons of rules!) The students use whiteboard markers to create the words. I made a worksheet for my students to fill out after they have created their words. This lets me see their work even if I can't get to them right away. The games that we got are fun and educational. My kids really get into them. I haven't had any cheating or disengagement going on.
My kids were so excited when the great big box from Lakeshore arrived. They wanted me to take it all out and start playing. We waited a day. When I set up the centers the kids were in love! I have never seen kids so engaged in an educational activity. They stayed on task and complained when I told them it was time to clean up. My struggling students really enjoyed being able to physically manipulate parts of the words to make new ones.
My next project is to get some standing desks in my classroom. I have some very wiggly kids and from all the research I have done, the standing desks seem to help. They allow students to stand or sit on a higher stool.”
