My students want to learn about robotics too! Please help me open doors for equity! I'm a third grade teacher in the Oxnard School District, at a Title 1 school with many underprivileged students who want to participate in robotics teams like First Lego League. I currently coach a FLL team of 6 students for my school, Curren. My school recently hosted a Clubs Fair, and I had 35 students sign up but I don't have robots or funding for more teams. PTA is willing to pay for the team's t-shirts and registration fee, but the kits are $800 each. I started the FLL team at my school because my daughter participated in First Lego League for 5 years prior and it bothered me that only middle class kids were participating while the poor kids that I teach NEVER had a team participate. My students are just as SMART, actually SMARTER! :) Please support equity in education. For my daughter's team the parent's coached and all helped pay. My students' parents are burdened with issues of poverty, cannot commit to coaching and cannot donate money. Their kids should not suffer from valuable STEM education and team building skills. Plus… it just makes me feel so sad to disappoint all those kids who want to learn that signed up at the clubs faire, so I’m reaching out to you… for help. Thanks!!! Here are some photos of The Geeky Cougars... I hope to raise enough money for 3 more teams.
