By having tables that flip up and roll, the large group area can easily be transformed into an open space allowing free exploration while students are using the robots and circuit items. The robots and circuits require floor space to allow freedom of movement during makerspace time. Our library space is very limited as it is housed in a kindergarten classroom. In order for the students to use the robots and circuits the heavy worktables must be moved. However in our tight space with the current tables, only 2 tables can be moved out of the way. This does not give the students enough space to work with multiple robots and circuits at a time. If all the tables could be folded and rolled out of the way, multiple robots could be programmed and in action simultaneously. The Sphero robots can be programmed to roll at fast speeds but our space restrictions only allow for limited speed and motions. The Dash robots also can be programmed to travel distances of 10 feet. Both robots can maneuver student constructed obstacle courses however, currently there is no space available to create these courses. The tables would give our students much needed flexible space for them to explore the STEM skills these robots and circuits provide.
