  • Wellness Wednesdays!

    Funded Nov 15, 2024

First of all, thank you for your support of my classroom! Our Wellness Wednesdays have been a hit with our students and this new equipment has been an exciting addition to the rotation of activities they are able to chose from.

When my first class walked in and saw all of the oversized games set up, their faces lit up and the excited whispers started. They were excited to learn about some new games as well as play some familiar ones, giant sized though! It was honestly surprising to me the amount of kids who were not familiar with some of the games that were introduced on our Wellness Wednesdays. It was awesome to see how quickly they were able to pick up the rules of games such as Uno and Connect Four and then figure out some strategies for success.

We will continue to use our new equipment on our Wellness Wednesdays, giving everyone in the school the opportunity to try it out. Some of the equipment will also be used in my PE classes when we are completing stations.

Thank you again for supporting my classroom and my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Young

  • Breakout in PE!

    Funded Oct 30, 2019

First off, let me thank you for all of your generous donations. Without them, the enrichment I am able to provide my students would not be possible. Providing methods to practice critical thinking skills and teamwork are important components of the PE classroom.

My students were very excited when I told them we were going to start doing Breakout boxes (or escape rooms) in PE class. So far grades second through fifth grades have completed our escape rooms. They worked in small groups using reading, math, physical activity and critical thinking skills to solve the clues and open their Breakout boxes. Their excitement when they were able to open their boxes and find the next clue was contagious!

We plan on using our Breakout boxes later in the semester to learn about different spring sports and to find a pesky leprechaun! Thank you again for your generous donations and support of my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

  • What Is Lacrosse?

    Funded Dec 17, 2017

A few weeks ago a large package was delivered to my gym during one of my 5th grade classes. Of course my students were all curious about what was inside. They knew we were working on a project through Donor's Choose for a complete set of lacrosse sticks. This class specifically was excited about the opportunity to learn about lacrosse because the middle school they will attend next year just started a lacrosse team. My students were ready to tear open the boxes and get started right then and there! Unfortunately for them, they had to wait a few weeks before we could use our new equipment.

Fast forward to a few days ago, our first day of our lacrosse unit. I have never seen my students so excited as when they walked in and saw the row of brand new lacrosse sticks lined up on the bleachers. We started off learning about safety and how to properly hold our lacrosse sticks. We moved on to cradling and scooping which my students found a little difficult at first but quickly figured out. We will continue on to throwing and catching in their next lesson and learning how to pass while moving. I think they are most excited about learning to shoot on the goal and use the goalie stick (which is significantly larger than the rest of the lacrosse sticks)! We hope to end the unit playing some small sided games using the new skills we have learned.

Thank you for providing my students with the opportunity to learn about and experience the game of lacrosse!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Young

  • Whose Team Am I On?

    Funded Dec 31, 2013

Thank you so much for your donations to my project! My students (and me!) were excited to see our packages arrive in the gym.

We have already put our new jerseys to good use - playing games in class as well as after school with my Running Club students. Their favorite games right now are Color Tag and Ultimate Frisbee, both made possible by our new jerseys.

Playing team games and activities are integral to teaching students about teamwork and sportsmanship as well as leadership. These jerseys have allowed me to introduce my students to more of these activities.”

  • Sprinting Into the Future

    Funded Oct 12, 2012

First of all, once again I say thank you from the bottom of my heart! I think I am more excited than my students! We have already started using our iPad to perform research about different sports and even found an app to help us keep score in our games. The iPad has been a great help to me as well, keeping track of attendance and grades.

The importance of technology in the classroom, every classroom becomes more evident each day. You have given my students and myself a valuable tool in our classroom. The more comfortable our students grow using technology, the more power they have to learn.

Thank you again for all of your donations and support!”

  • Jumbo Stacking Up!

    Funded Apr 25, 2012

First of all, a huge thank you for supporting teachers! It's amazing how quickly the little things we purchase for our students quickly add up. So it is always great to receive support from not only friends and family, but strangers as well. Thank you.

Our Jumbo Stacks were delivered right in the middle of our Field Day, so I had a ton of kids in the gym when they arrived (and they were Speed Stacking!). So we instantly made the decision to open the package and let the kids get started. The looks on their faces when I started pulling the gigantic cups out of the box was priceless! They were super excited and had an amazing time from the first second.

We have since used them in class a few times and will continue to use them for years to come. They are great tools for building hand eye coordination and as well as teamwork and cooperation skills.

Once again, thank you so much for your donations and I hope you will continue to support teachers in the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Young

  • Students in Motion

    Funded Mar 21, 2011

I would like to thank each and every one of you for your donations.

You made it possible for my students to be introduced to activities and equipment they had not previously experienced. My kids have enjoyed every minute of playing with the parachute as well as the rest of the equipment. Our activities have focused on working together as a team and having fun! The rubber chickens have been an added bonus, making my kids laugh once they realized they were not real...

You have made the experiences of my students and myself so much richer through your generosity. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Young

  • Wanted: PE Equipment To Keep Us Moving!

    Funded Dec 31, 2009

I would like to start with a huge thanks to all of you for your donations! It amazed me how quickly it all added up to complete my project.

My students have been making great use of all our new equipment since it arrived in the mail - how exciting to have 3 huge boxes delivered! It was like Christmas for me and to be able to provide these resources to the kids was awesome!

The games and activities were are now able to do in PE class is endless now thanks to your donations! The hula hoops have been a great help during the winter months stuck inside and only having a small space to work with.

I thank you again, from both myself and my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Young

  • Move On Up!

    Funded Nov 6, 2009

I would like to start off with a huge thank you from myself and my students. We have been using our new boom box since the day it came in the mail! We have been able to put music into all of our lessons - learning to juggle with scarves, how to hula hoop and sometimes just to have a little fun moving and dancing in the classroom!

All of my classes, kindergarten up to fifth grade have benefited from your generosity but I think the most use has come from my kindergarteners. They love to dance and move to music! It helps keep them focused and having fun in class.

Thank you so much for providing this resource to my students. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Young
