From the moment they saw the book covers to the words they read, they were in awe. Through this project, I was able to have read-alouds on the carpet area and discussions that allowed the students to share their thoughts in regards to having a growth-mindset and what that actually meant. As we continued to read this books, we referred to them periodically and created personal goals. There were also books within this project that we used within science. These books allowed students to discover how an idea can be the beginning to a beautiful creation.
Although, reading/discussions took place within our library area as read-alouds, students had the opportunity to enjoy these books on their own time and create questions or jot down their thoughts so that we could discuss them during our next meeting.
I've noticed that most of the girls were enjoying the engineering/science books a little more than the boys. I'm not sure if it was the illustrations or the fact that girls were used within the book; but I loved the idea that the girls were loving science just as much as they boys were. All in all, they were all enjoying the books. I'm especially proud of the fact that a majority of them would talk about how their abilities could be developed with a positive outlook.”
