Calling All Book Lovers!
Funded Oct 5, 2018Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind donations to my classroom book project. My students were so excited when the boxes of books arrived! They couldn't wait for me to unpack, level and organize the books into our classroom library.
For my students, new books mean so much! I have many struggling readers who are not on grade level. This causes issues for them across subject areas. One of the main issues for a disinterested reader is a lack of appropriate books. Our classroom library was very sad looking. Lots of old titles, appearing tattered and not engaging. The donations you have all made have allowed me the opportunity to freshen up my library with graphic novels and choose your own ending books. These types of books motivate readers in a big way!
It has been amazing watching my readers choose the new books from the classroom book bins. They make deals with each other about who gets to read which book next. Between our new library books and access to online reading programs, my goal is to motivate my readers and increase their levels higher as the year goes on. It truly brings me joy to see them so excited about reading again. And its all thanks to you!”

Laptops for Learning!
Funded Oct 28, 2016My students and I are so thankful for the new laptops we have received for the classroom. When the package arrived, they could hardly contain their excitement! They watched me unpack each brand new laptop and were dying to get their hands on them. The laptops are the perfect size for the classroom and the internet works very fast on their operating systems.
These laptops have changed the way learning happens in my classroom for my reasons. Every morning during reading workshop, I select 5 students to use the laptops in place of reading independently. They are allowed to choose from a variety of reading activities/games found on our schools website. The students get so excited when it is their day to use the laptops, and they love the opportunity to spend time with the new technology.
These laptops have also been helpful during math time, when the students practice skills and strategies we are currently working on in the classroom. Their favorite game to play is a multiplication one that allows them to challenge users who are also on laptops at the same time. During our after school program, my students have been completing webquests using the laptops and having so much fun with it! I put a variety of questions on the Smartboard and they work with a partner to research the topic on the laptops. The team that finishes first receives a prize. It is a great way to incorporate technology into the classroom, as well as to practice their internet research abilities.
In conclusion, we thank all donors for their generosity. These laptops have allowed us the ability to practice skills, play educational games, research new topics, type our writing pieces and MUCH more. My 27 students and I are so appreciative to all who made this project possible :)”
